3 weeks old eating schedule

Hi,

My DS is 3 weeks old & used to eat every 2 hours or so but from the last 2 days he is not eating much at night but wants to eat every hour during early morning.  This morning between 7AM to 10:30AM he drank 6 ounces.  If I try to give him more formula he doesn't drink it all at once & if I make him wait 2 hours between feeding he cries until he is fed.  I am just wondering if anyone else's LO does this & how to put a 3 week old on some sort of eating & sleeping schedule?

    At that age you can't really schedule anything. As long as LO doesn't goore than 4 hrs without food it's fine. If they're hungry feed them at this point, though it can get old feeding so often.

    You can't put them on a schedule. It's a good sign that he wants to eat more often during the day and not at night--means he's figuring out that daytime is for eating and nighttime for sleeping. You're doing a great job. Just follow his lead.

    You won't be able to put them on a schedule.  That sounds very normal though, if they go for a long time without eating they will make up for it, however their stomach is too small to fit all they need so they will eat small amounts often after a long stretch of no food.

    I agree with the PP, it's probably a growth spurt.  I have a 3-week old and she ate every hour last night lol

    Lo is 3 weeks today. Our pediatrician said to go ahead and try to get her on a routine. Now some times it changes. The last couple of days she was having a growth spurt so her routine changed but right now she eats 3 oz every 4 hours. I never wake her at night because I know she will get me up when she's ready to eat. If I try to wake her up she won't take the bottle. We try not to let her go over 4 hrs during the day and 5 hrs at night without a feeding and she's really starting to catch up on her weight. Is say every baby is different. I'm glad we are starting a routine because I go back to work when she is 7 weeks. I can see a big difference in her content/comfort level now that we have some type of schedule started.

    No eating schedule for my 3 wk old.  I just feed him when he's hungry and we recently went through what I think was a growth spurt - nursing for hours on end and not sleeping.  But my sleepy baby is back today and things seem to be back to normal.

    I generally won't let my LO go more than 3 hrs during the day w/o nursing (I ebf) and have him wake me at night when he's hungry (usually 3-4 hrs).
