Pro EP'ers please come in...

Need your advice here...

I have been EPing since DD was about 2 weeks old (was nursing before that.)

I pump 5 times a day every 3-4 hours but no middle of the night pump. I have a pretty good supply and am pumping approx 50 ounces a day and am able to put half of it away in my freezer. I feel like I am a slave to my pump and can't go anywhere because of my pumping schedule. I am really considering dropping a pump and pumping every 5 hours.

Is it too soon? Or has my supply been well established? I don't want to affect my supply but I am unable to get anything done without having to come back home to pump. TIA

  • I would suggest not being so much of a slave to the schedule.  Sometimes I end up going longer then I want between either nursing or pumping due to various things.  I just don't beat myself up over it.  I know I have a good freezer stash and over a week i am never behind even though during the day (at work) I usually pump right around what she takes at daycare.  Of course if you're getting 10oz a session that is over double what I get (3-4oz if I pump every 3-3.5 hrs)

  • I would check out kellymom.com to ask this question - you'll get more responses.  I wish I could get 50 ounces with 5 pumps!!!!  I pump 8 times a day and get 30 but I am only one month in - hope to get to your level at 2 months!!  GL!
  • You can always try it for a few days and if it starts to hurt your supply, add more pumps back in.

Some people are lucky and can manipulate their supply earlier.

I've dropped pumps, but I've lost a little of my supply. But, I'm still banking some and feeding Scarlett, so I don't worry about it.

    Good luck!!
