Is an upholstered rocking chair in nursery worth it?

DH and I are trying to find a modern-ish rocker that is upholstered that we would like to put in the nursery. We both started wondering is it worth it? Do you think rocking is important or if it just reclines is that enough? How much do you sit in the nursery if you have one or is it not worth the money? The plus side to the ones we like is that they could go in our living room eventually...

TIA!!

Re: Is an upholstered rocking chair in nursery worth it?

  • I think the important thing is the rocking.  The rocking helps soothe and calm the baby.  Sometimes that is the only way a baby will fall asleep.  Ours doesn't recline but has a foot stool that also glides.  I actually thought about bringing my recliner up into the living room so I would have more than just the nursery to rock the baby in

  • Our rocker ended up in the living room because it wasn't used in the nursery... but we still don't use it that much.

  • Do you plan to put the baby in his/her crib right away?  I was all about getting a rocker for the nursery, but now that DS is here, we are *never* in his nursery so I'm glad we didn't spend the money on it when there were so many other things we needed.  He sleeps in the PNP beside our bed and probably will for at least another few months.  We'll worry about getting a chair when we move him to his room

So my vote is, if baby will be in your room at first, it can probably wait.

  • I've used mine every day since DD was born.  Where else are you going to feed DC when they get up 6 times during the night?  I'm very glad I have a comfortable chair.  I think the rocking is a lot more important than the recline -- it's tough to feed the baby while reclined.

  • We bought one for the nursery. It's worth it I'd say. Rocking is good but it's whatever makes you comfortable. I feed DS there every night before he goes to bed for the night and his first feed in the early mornings and put him back to bed so I use it twice a day. When he has his cranky fits I bring him into his room and rock with him to sooth him and it works. We got a neutral color one so that we can use it in the living room for the future. I personal think it's worth the money!

  • I have a glider and use it every single night starting with the day we brought her home from the hospital.  In the middle of the night you need something comfortable to sit in to feed her so it's worth getting one with the arms upholstered or else your elbows are going to get very uncomfortable.  It is not worth getting one that reclines.  When are you going to recline while holding a baby?  That sounds a little awkward.   We have an ottoman that glides as well and it is really nice to put your feet up.  It's worth having the motion because it soothes baby when she is fussy.  We got ours for about 100 bucks at BRU.
  • At first, I didn't think we needed one (no $$$) but once my parents bought us one, I ended up using it all the time.

  • We got a Luca Glider: ?https://www.masonandmatisse.com/lucaglider2.html

?and I LOVE IT! ? The arms are the perfect height for BF, it is comfortable, and is a really good looking chair. ?I used it a lot in the beginning to escape visitors (we had a lot for a long time) and have used it every night since DD moved to her crib (around 3 week). ??

I didn't get the ottoman. ?I got a BF stool instead.

  • I have a glider/ottoman from BRU in the nursery and love it.  DD sleeps in a bassinet in our room, but i do get up to go feed her in the nursery. I aslo find it calms her during the day to go up there and rock. it's by a window and we both seem to enjoy looking out. :)  I say worth it!

  • I was on bedrest for the last 3.5 month of my pregnancy and never got to order a rocker for the nursery. ?I was miserable while we were waiting for one to come in. ?We ended up purchasing a rocker for $150 from Wal Mart just to hold us over. ?The one we ordered for the nursery will also go in another room when we are done with it.
  • I love my rocking chair! It Rocks! lol at my being lame
