I cant decide anyone have any opinions on this??? I love how easy the sling looks to get on, but I love how snuggly the moby wrap keeps baby to you but it looks hard to put on! anyone have expierance or researched it better than me I would love to know what you ended up with!!!tia
Re: moby wrap or sling???
I have a Moby and a Bjorn when I had DS. I used the Moby twice because it was so flippin' hot in Florida at the end of August. I know people suggest tying it on and leaving it on, especially if you're driving somewhere, and then putting the baby in at your destination. This was impossible since it was ridiculously warm and confining for me.
Also, I am a little inept and it wasn't the easiest thing to tie and get the right amount of room for the baby. I always seemed to make it too tight or too loose.
The Bjorn I used from about 4 months on with him. Since that time, I now know how bad it can be for the baby's hips and being suspended that way. I've bought an Ergo for this baby, so we'll see.
Be careful with the sling because my understanding is that you need a correct fit (after delivery, basically) to determine the size for the baby. If it's too loose, the baby could be in danger of falling. I'd ask over on the AP (attachment parenting) board for ideas, too.
I have both and used both at different stages. Moby would be better for the newborn stage and small infant, but I love the sling for when DD was bigger and a toddler. Also it is much easier to throw a sling on although once they're bigger I wouldn't recommend it for long trips (it starts to hurt your back)
eta I use a ring sling because it's much easier to adjust.
i have both a Moby and Maya Ring Sling. i really like them both, but for different stages. I used the Maya Sling when DD was really small, but read FAR too many reports of infants suffocating in the cradle position because of the way their necks were laying, so i switched to the Moby wrap until she was old enough to sit upright on her own. I loved how snuggly and close it kept DD. Once you get the hang of putting it on, it's a piece of cake! Also, you can make your own Moby for a lot cheaper than you can buy one and it's SUPER easy!
i still use the Maya Sling almost every day and DD is 13 months old, she loves riding on my hip while we are out and about and it doesn't crush my big belly.
i did however just buy a Lillebaby Everywhere Carrier as it will do all 5 carrying positions in one carrier - we'll see how it goes when DS gets here in September!
If you are tall I would recommend the moby or any other wrap that you tie. I am 5'10" and my husband is 6"2" and we found the slings to be too small and uncomfortable to work for us.
Also the moby fabric is a bit stretchy so you may need to re-try if you wear for a long time.
