I am about to go on Tricare because my husband joined the military recently and from what I have read they sometimes cover midwife care, you just have to contact them and find out if they will cover the location you are planning to use. The place I am using said they just recently got some sort of federal or state certification and that may be what your center needs for tricare to recognize them. Good Luck!
I'm seeing a midwife at a hospital. We don't have a birthing center where I'm at. The on base hospital is now a clinic so I just had to tell TriCare where I was going and it was ok from there. You should also contact the birthing center and ask if they even accept tricare. Not all places do.

Here is a link. On the chart on the bottom, you'll see info about birthing centers. If you use a midwife, she must be a Certified Nurse Midwife. Apparently, that can be a problem because a lot of midwives are certified as Certified Professional Midwives and Tricare will not recognize them as authorized providers.
Yes, they will. I used a midwife. I was originally to deliver at the birthing center, but wound up at the hospital for several reasons. Everything was covered. It all would have been covered at the birthing center as well, waterbirth included. I'm not sure about home births, though.
I'm sure the people at Tricare would prefer we all use a birthing center. It is far less expensive than a hospital. If you have any questions about it, let me know. I've done it 4 times.

Do you know what their regulations would be in terms of an in home water birth?? I've tried researching online but can't find much...

Just for an update, I called Tricare and had to talk to a supervisor who was very helpful. They told me that if I am Tricare standard, a home birth would be covered, but only if the care was from a Certified Nurse Midwife, there are a few different types of Midwives. There are also a few hoops to jump through, but all in all their response was that yes, it is possible to have a home birth covered.
