nipple relief ?

One of my nipples feels like its about to rip off, and has a few spots that it looks like it too and I was curious ... is there anything I can use/do that would make it either heal or hurt less while feeding? It honestly makes my toes curl and me sweat when he latches on. Or is it just time that will make it better? I feel like it will never heal though.

Re: nipple relief ?

  • lansinoh lanolin nipple cream, it worked wonders for me

  • The nipple shield is a god sent!!
  • I have the lanolin nipple ointment and it doesn't seem to be doing much. maybe I am not using it often enough. I might have to try a nipple shield if that would help to let it heal.
  • Does it hurt the whole time you are feeding or just while getting C latched?  Is your nipple cracked at all?  The reason I ask is because this is the type of pain my friend described and she was diagnosed with thrush.  I've heard it is more common if the nipple is cracked.  Hope you feel better soon!
  • My nips have been bloody and scabbed but they seem to heal even with nursing. I'm using the lansinoh lanolin ointment too. Liberally. Good luck!

  • I used the nipple shield a lot -becuase she didn't open her mouth enough to get a good latch but then also for my poor, poor nipples.  I used that cream stuff but it hurt when I applied it.  Try Soothies, you can find them at Target.  Those are pretty nice.

My nipple is cracked, but it only hurts for the first few seconds when he latches then it becomes less painful. But I honestly dread nursing him on that side. My skin crawls as I put him up to the boob.

I remember that feeling way too vividly. I had the EXACT same pain. Lanolin did nothing for me either. The good news it that it really only lasted about 2 weeks.
