Hospital Bag I know its been asking 1000000000 times

If someone has a link or a list of what I need can you post it here? I know its been asking 1,000 + times but you know the nest can't make a search function.

TIA

  • Here is what I can remember:

    * socks - which I didn't need because I was always hot

    * comfy undies that you don't mind getting ruined

    * Nightgown if you don't want to stay in the hospital gown the entire time

    * Shampoo/conditioner/hair spray/brush/etc.

    * Makeup

    * Normal toiletries like toothbrush and deoderant

    * Going home outfit for the baby

    * Going home outfit for you (Most likely maternity clothes)

    * Stuff for DH (including snacks)

    * Laptop if you have one. This is especially nice if the hospital has wifi.

    * Camera/video camera

    Everything else I needed the hospital provided.

    Change of clothes for DH.  When we do this again, I'll go ahead and have him a shirt, gym shorts and socks in the bag so he wont be so uncomfortable if he has to rush from work.

    Lanolin cream.  I visited a friend just a week before I delivered and she commented that there was so much she didnt know about BF and that she wished she had gotten Lanolin sooner.  I had my mom get me some sometime the first or second day and used it religioiusly.  I never had any cracking/bleeding problems

     Door Decoration.  I had his name that was used at my shower saved so we could use it at the hospital.  Since I never got my bag packed, it didnt make it but I wish it had... just for the pictures and such.  I know, so silly.

  • I found a list here on the bump - https://pregnant.thebump.com/pregnancy/pregnancy-tools/articles/checklist-packing-a-hospital-bag.aspx

    Plus I did a google search.  I looked at several lists and made my own based on my needs.  Some things that I have on my list in addition to what PP mentioned:

    Hair bands

    my own pillow with a brightly colored pillowcase

    hard candy to suck on - not certain the hospital will allow it but I've read several places that it's nice to have to suck on if they do allow it

    My Ipod and charger with my playlists

    Birth Ball

    any comfort tools you plan to use - I've got my roller massager packed

    nursing tanks/ bras, and any personal nursing supplies to want to take

    cell phone chargers

    any hospital paperwork

    a bathing suit for DH in case I use the shower during labor

    and of course, make sure you take your carseat

    Hope that helps!

  • Don't forget the page out of your baby book where her little footprints will go once she arrives!! (or the whole baby book if you want visitors to sign it)
  • 2 cans of Sprite, 4 mini bags of chips and a book DH is reading.  Honestly - that's what was in my hospital bag.  (We had no idea we'd be staying and actually having the baby when we went in.  It was midnight and DH packed the "bag".)

    Obviously I don't recommend those be your only supplies, but I mention it only to say that even if you forget the soothing music or the breast pads or your favorite socks or whatever, it won't really matter.  DH did go home after DS was born and got a few things - comfy pjs pants and nursing tanks, laptop - but we honestly could've survived just fine with our original bag.  The hospital had just about everything I needed.

  • I was really grad to have brought some body lotion for myself. I was kind of dehydrated when I went in, and my skin was dry and itchy (it was february though, so that could have been part of it)

    Snacks for DH, definitely. Granola bars were good for rrr.

    I got some dark colored grippy socks from target and kept those on. Get several pairs so you can change after delivery. That first trip to the bathroom will be messy.

    Definitely bring your own pillow. Hospital pillows SUCK.

    little cotton mittens for baby. They will give you an emery board, but those new nails are really tough to file. It definitely helped keep her from scratching.

  • We laughed at the sweatshirt for DH on the paperwork from the hospital.  We weren't laughing so much when DH ended up with a terrible chest cold from the freezing temps!

    Chargers (laptop and cell)
    Camera (with memory stick, we discovered ours wasn't in the camera two minutes after she was born. classic.)

    I was also glad to have a robe and flip flops as DD was in the NICU and I was between floors throughout my stay.
