Nightmares at 14mos?/Sleep Q

DC is 14 mos old, has been STTN since 5 weeks, and still takes  a morning and afternoon nap.  For the past 2 months DC has been waking up exactly 45 minutes after going to bed, crying hysterically for a couple minutes until we do a quick back rub.  No desire to be soothed other than the back rub..  Ped suggested a nightmare/tremor but every single night for 2+ months only at bedtime?

Not teething and no new developmental things in 2 months.

Any ideas?

  • maybe some seperation anxiety and he just wants to check in to make sure you are still there and when he feels your pats he relaxes a bit. It is prob a phase and will fade away. What happens if you don't go in and pat his back...will he go back?

  • Uncontrolable crying if we don't do the 10 second backrub.  DC has always been a fantastic sleep so I'm ready for this phase to pass. :)
  • DD used to do that. pedi thought it might be night terrors. His suggestion to us was that maybe a half hour after DD fell asleep, go in and and just gently rouse her. He said don't totally wake her up completetly just kind of gently shake her. he said that nightmares and night terrors are part of their sleep pattern. By gently rousing them, it interrupts their sleep pattern just enough that it should ward off the terros b/c it puts them in a different stage of sleep. It's worth a try. Good Luck! :)
