My 8wk old has his 2mo pedi appt today at 5pm. I was hoping that 3hrs shy of the close of the 3rd day would be okay to leave (she goes to bed at 8pm) and I don't know if DH will make it home in time from work to take DS by himself.
She tells us anytime she has to pee (and is still have accidents...only a few though) but my worry is in the timing as she pees a lot every 1/2hr or if she only released a small amt, she'll need to go again right away or 5mins later. I'll leave immediately after she pees and then have her go once we get there (15min drive). Should I expect to have to pull over in that 15mins to let her pee in the travel potty? And once I'm there do I leave DS with the doctor a few times when/if she needs to go?
Reading that back to myself I know the answer....of course I'll have to stop and take her or I'll have a mess to clean.....so I guess my underlying worry is....is it likely to be this way? Was it this way for you on your first outing after 3DPT? Any tips to make it go smoother? I'm nervous!!!
Re: Tips for our first errand at 3 Days of 3DPT
You might be surprised, my kids usually have to go more at home. They are so distracted when out that they tend to hold it more. But when my 2 year old started potty training I tried to bring him before we left, once we got somewhere, & then before we left again. I have never had to pull over. We have a travel potty but have never used it!
With an 8 week old just bring him in his carrier.. that way if you have to bring your daughter you can bring everyone. I bring all my kids into the bathroom with me.
And relax ; ).. what does it really matter if she has an accident?.. this is how she is going to learn. Just bring a couple change of undies & bottoms & a bag to put it in!
I am on Day 2 and am worried about this too! I have to say though the alst poster make a good point. I took DS out on our patio to play today (we stayed IN THE HOUSE ALL DAY yesterday!) and he stayed dry for 2 hours! Yesterday he was peeing like every 10 minutes!
I would scout out the bathroom where-ever you go (so you can make a quick run) and bring extra underwear just in case.
GL!
Thank you for the inspiration, ladies! I will also hope she does as well as your kids did when getting out (finally lol). We havent' left in 2.5days and I'm going nutso over here.
I'm not worried about the accidents themselves, tbh. I'm more worried about the having to pull over part and how that will play out (i.e. will she be super anxious, how quickly I need to do the pulling over) and how to deal with her needing to go when the doc is actually examing DS (don't really want to whisk him away and ask the doctor to wait 5mins while I take her to pee). I always use the carrier w/him when I'm with DD; life is so much easier that way, so that will be fine.
Oooh.....just got a call from DH that he will be home in time for the appt!! We can handle this better as a team for sure so I'm much less worried now. Plus, I'll get my first experience out with her (and the baby) with some help so maybe it'll turn out just fine and next time when I don't have DH I'll be less anxious
