Just to even things out a little: 30 minutes? For real?

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama plans to air a 30-minute commercial during prime time on Oct. 29, six days before Election Day.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said the campaign has secured the time from CBS and is negotiating with other networks to air the half-hour spot.

Obama has been outspending rival John McCain in advertising and has been airing commercials of up to two-minutes in length.

  • I would promise Barack Obama that I would watch it, if he would stop running 15 or 30 second commercials 10 times/hour.

  • How is this a bad thing?  If the McCain camp has the $$ they can do it too.
  • It seems he will be using the 30 minutes to outline his plans if he becomes President.  I don't know what is wrong with this concept.  If he has the funds it's a good way to use them in my opinion.  He will reach millions of people right before the election.
  • Eh.  I don't really care one way or the other.  He also has his own channel on satellite TV.  I'm sure McCain would do the same- maybe he just doesn't have the funding for it.  Who knows.

That's freaking funny. And I agree, I am so freaking tired of political ads!

I just don't see how a 30 minute ad that close to the election will a) sway anyone or b) be any different than the debates. We've heard it all, IMO, and it just seems flashy and like an attention tactic to me.

  • IMO, it's a bad move.  It's going to look to some like he's trying to "buy" the election.  I think he'd do better to put out more ads NOW in states like West Virginia and North Dakota, where he's polling within a few points.  He's probably going to win anyway...picking up one of those "solid" red states would be huge.

  • These candidates raise millions upon millions of dollars for these campaigns and ads. I really have to wonder if they can raise all this money isn't there a better use for it, like say helping the hungry, homeless, or uninsured.  Lose the freaking mud slinging ads about who does or doesn't do what and do some good with all that money.

I can't wait for all to be said and done, personally I don't like either one, I suppose I'll be choosing the lesser of two evils.
