Other options besides car seat carriers?

So, my husband has two herniated discs in his back and he was told to have a two level disc replacement surgery, however, insurance won't pay for this procedure, so we do not have the cash to pay for it.

I am expecting twins in February.  I'm concerned that the car seat carriers are going to be way too heavy for him to carry and I do not think I can handle two at the same time.  What else can you use?  If you get a stationary car seat, and you visit someone what can you use to put the babies in?  I was trying to search babies r us, but became so frustrated that I started crying (possibly the hormones).  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Thank You!

  • I am short and weak and cannot carry the car seats:) I highly recommend the DSNG. You just put the car seats on the frame. I use it anytime I need to bring the LOs anywhere.

Yes the Double Snap N Go has saved my sanity!!  I got mine used at a multiples sale for $10!  It folds up pretty flat and is lightweight and easy to push around.  I take mine everywhere!

**If you buy it used, make sure it comes with ALL the hardware**  (ours did not, but luckily, it was already set up to carry 2 snugrides)

And up until this last week, I have been able to carry both at once in their seats.  Not for long distances, but it is do-able.  Lily is 13 lbs and Noah is  16.

  • Not sure if you meant you don't want infant seats at all, but you can always get a convertible car seat which will hold babies well into toddler years.  And just buckle them in/out each time.  The City Mini holds babies since 5 lbs.  this combo will prob help w/ carrying less weight.

However, I would prob recommend the infant seat w/ DSNG as it is prob safest, IMO.

  • Definitely get the Graco Snugrides (normal, not the 32s, because they're lighter) and a DSNG. I'm not that strong but I was able to carry both car seats by myself for short distances (e.g. into a friend's house) until they were each about 16 lbs. You can also carry one baby in an Ergo or other carrier/sling, carry the other on your hip and still have a hand free to open doors and such. I wouldn't do that all the time but it works if you're just trying to get them inside a friend's house or something.

  • Great suggestions!  Thanks everyone!  I did tell my DH that I'm going to learn to have nice strong arms very quickly to try and lighten the mood.  I will look into the regular Graco Snugrides and see how they feel and check out the DSNG.

If you don't use carriers, what can you use to put the baby in at someone's else? Do you use one of those bouncy seats?   Clearly, I'm going to be a 1st time parent!

Just an idea by the time that you carry in the two bouncy seats and two babies it would have just been as easy to carry two carriers in.That way you don't have to make two trips out to your car.
