3rd Trimester

Natural ways to induce labor......?

Has anyone tried anything and had it work? I know at this stage everyone says they're ready, but I'm so ready. On Monday was 2 centimeters dilated and 50% effaced. I have been having tons of cramping and a few BH. But nothing i would consider a contraction. ( If they are really intense. This is my first so I'm not sure what they feel like) I just need some ideas on how to get things really going.

Thank You!

  • how about just letting it happen on it's own? doesn't get any more natural than that.

you can try all of the old wives tales-- however baby comes when baby wants to come.

  • I had an acupuncture induction with #1 but only because DS was measuring so big and I was trying to avoid being medically induced.  I would let things progress themselves unless you have reason to interfere or were further along.

  • Sex!  And lots of it! Stick out tongue
  • I think that even if you use a "natural" method... to induce a baby to come before they/you are truly ready- is to flirt with problems.  I was just talking with a LC at a party and she was telling me that she feels that a lot of the problems women have nursing their newborns spring from inductions when the baby is born very near-to full term... but lacking that last little finishing touch that makes them really ready to latch on and nurse.

I would only resort to induction if I was up against a deadline of induce now or have a c section.  Of if we failed a stress test or something.

Because I have VBACs- chemical induction is not even an option for me.  In one birth the Hoku pressure points played a starring role- but my water had already broken- we just needed to get things moving a little faster because we only had 12 hrs to deliver and I wasn't in labor yet.

Baby needs to stay in a bit longer! I know 37 weeks is full term but their lungs can still develop more.

  • I am going in for acupuncture on Friday but only in hopes of avoiding a more invasive medical induction next week, not for my own comfort or convenience.

"Full-term" just means "not a preemie." Your DUE DATE is still 2.5 weeks away. And your LO's actual ready-for-primetime date could be farther off still. So sit back, relax, and let your baby come when it's the right time for baby, not you.

  • we have the same due date! and i know i'm soooo ready too..this weekend i will be eating more than my fair share of pineapple, ginger cookies, and anything spicy (i'm not about to try castor oil though) and probably hitting a few speed bumps in the jeep! i just wish he would come already!!

  • I know you're right and i don't want him to have problems! I guess i have just hit the wall. Between work and trying to make sure everything is ready at home... I am just tired and very uncomfortable.

  • By 38 weeks, I was walking like crazy, swimming, eating spicy foods, having sex frequently, I even had a pressure point massage. Nothing. Obviously I'm still here and still pregnant. I was hoping to avoid induction, but its scheduled for Friday.... Good luck, but if baby isnt ready then it wont happen.

  • With my first I was ready at 37 weeks too so I understand it can be hard to wait. Just a week can make a big difference though in your LO's development. I think going over was worth it for ending up with a healthy baby who was a great eater!

  • i'm only 33 weeks and i am with you there, but hang in there you only have a couple of more weeks and they will pass so fast.  Try to rest when you can ( I have a 4 yr old and it's hard to rest when you want to) watch tv (if you like to) go to the mall, go out to eat, enjoy the things that become more challenging to do once baby comes.  Good luck and I hope to hear a birth story from you soon.
  • Keep yourself busy for another week.  Then try to take lots of long walks, have sex and some would recommend eating eggplant parmesean :)

This. You just need to be patient. Not only do LO's lungs still need to develop, but also their brain. Baby will come when they are ready.

agreed... I literally have tried everything... sex, walking, jumping up and down LOL, bumpy roads, castor oil, half a glass of wine, pedicures, pressure points...literally every OWT i could find or heard about and NOTHING! LOL lots of false labor but no baby. LO will come when LO is ready, and all the OWT say this "this will not work unless a woman's body is actually ready for labor"  I know your at 2cm but you can sit there for weeks... ive been at 4.5 for a week now... and sat at 2cm from 30weeks to 34weeks...  let nature takes its course =]  relaxing will actually help move things along

  • I'm definitely going to tell DH about the diamonds :)
