North Dakota Babies

Today = semi-fail (looong)

I'll start with the good news. Once I burn this DVD I'm officially on maternity leave. So that feels good.

Other than that, today has kind of been a mess. I've only slept 2.5 hours, which is mostly my own fault because I stayed up most of the night editing these wedding photos. So, I only have myself to blame for being tired.

For some reason, Q is no longer latching on. She'll get on, suck 3 times, pop off and then scream. Rinse.. repeat... This morning it took 10 minutes to get her to latch on and stay on just one breast. Since then it's just gotten worse to the degree that I've given her bottles for the last two feedings because I can't handle it.  I've called my LC THREE times and have not received a call back so that makes me extra frustrated.

I feel like there's nothing for her to even latch on to. I don't know if my milk is letting down and if it isn't I don't know why. Despite my boobs not feeling full, I know that the milk is there. I pumped 5oz between the two breasts this afternoon.

So yeah, feeding fail today. I tried the nipple shield at the last feed and it helped but she was still popping off and on.

I used 2 fitted cloth diapers on her today. Baby's first cloth diapers! They were huge and she looked ridiculous but it was fun. Both times she napped in them and when she woke up she freaked out. My guess is it's because she's not used to feeling wet like that? I dunno.

I put her back in sposies in hopes that going back to 'normal' would help her calm down when she's trying to latch but it hasn't helped yet.

Right now she's sleeping in the moby so I'm not able to lie down. Hopefully her body and my body are getting back into sync and the feedings tonight will be better.

**ETA** The LC called back as soon as I posted this. Apparently I was calling her office and not her cell. Anyhow, she made me feel much better and let me cry a bit and get those emotions out. She said I'm doing everything I can and am using the tools I have. Her prescription was to hand the baby to Steve when he gets home and go to sleep for as long as I can. So, that's the plan!

    Hugs....

  • I don't have any advice, but big ::hugs::! And, with everything I've been going through with my wedding photog, big thumbs up to you for being professional and getting things done, even though you just had a baby. Your clients should consider themselves lucky. I hope you get take a nice long nap and that Q latches on like a pro during her next feeding.
  • I'm sorry M.  I can't imagine how frustrated you are.

    I'm glad you heard back from her.  I think her prescription sounds like the perfect remedy.  Take care of yourself, mama!

  • It's never a failure sweetie. BFing is all about ups and downs. You'll have good days and bad. Hopefully more good days than bad. Even if you have bad days sweetie it is so very worth it.

    I hope you were able to take a nice long nap before the evening festivities.

    I have friends who were married in Riviera Maya.
