Caregiver Interview Questions

Even though I was a nanny, I don't know what to ask potential care providers for K.

-What should I ask a home caregiver?  I would rather have a center but I can't find any infant care centers.

-How did you decide on childcare?

TIA!

Re: Caregiver Interview Questions

  • I'm a nanny and I was asked a TON of questions by my current family:  my thoughts on punishment/time out/etc, how much experience I had, how I felt about caring for a sick child, how often I took vacations, how I felt about kids watching tv, whether I was comfortable with mom/dad coming home early without warning, whether I was ok with letting the dog out around lunchtime, how I planned to keep an 8 week old engaged, things I thought I could teach the child as she grew up, whether I wanted a permanent or temporary position, what I planned on doing while the baby was asleep, how I planned on making sure the baby got enough attention (since I would be bringing my own dd with me, who was 17 months old at the time) and we talked about payment and such.

We had decided that if they told me not to come (holiday, they go out of town, etc) then I'd still get paid.  If I call in sick, I don't get paid.  Let me tell you, it keeps me from calling in sick!  lol

I also intended to go back to work once dd was born. I interviewed probably 20 home daycare providers but couldn't imagine leaving dd with any of them.  And the waiting lists at centers were INSANE!  One lady actually LAUGHED at me and told me I should have called her the minute I found out I was pregnant.  Surprise

Oh, and the family I'm with right now also had me do a fingerprint check, which they paid for.
