There's a house about a mile from ours that is for sale. It is the exact same set up inside and out as ours (same builder...who, BTW, has since gone out of business) just some aesthetics are different but nothing major. It is $100k less than what my husband bought our house for 9 years ago.
Holy sh*t balls that's depressing.
Granted, we have a 2.5 car garage (they don't have a garage), we have a/c (the for sale one doesn't), we are on a side street (the for sale one is on a busy road across from the city fire house), and we have a huge yard (the for sale one is not huge at all) but nothing worth $100k.
So this just reinforces that we will make changes to our house (counter-tops, flooring, paint) and be here forever. I do love our house so I'm cool with staying here but still that is depressing.
Oh and the for sale one is a foreclosure but still...
Re: NTTCR: Ugh! House related
Yes I've very happy we don't need to move. We had thought about putting our house up for sale at the beginning of the year so we had a Realtor come out to talk to us about it. He told us we would be lucky to get $30k under what we paid... which is now even lower.
We have a really nice house (we are the first owners of and it's not too big not too small) that will be even nicer once we make all of the changes to it. It's just sucks how awful the housing market, as far as sale prices, has gotten (though, not sucky if you are in the market to buy that's for sure).
Our neighbors bought their house (looks like ours) a couple years before the market went in the pooper, they paid $30k more than what my husband paid for ours. They must hate that.
Chicken, I spent the majority of my youth in the Mitten as well and still have a good number of friends/family that still live there. I think MI took a huge hit a few years back and still hasn't fully recovered. My aunt's house dropped in value by about $80,000 and my friend's have been trying to sell theirs for 9 months without success and have dropped the price 4 times. On the flip side, they can now afford a house twice the size in a more desirable neighborhood..........they recently looked at a house that was valued at $450 8 years ago and is now just $325-$350......holy crap!
I'm sorry that the house for sale is so much lower than yours.........that sucks! But at least yours has some better features! I feel for ya!
