Ethan is pretty much potty trained all the way going pee. He will go all day long on the potty, and we have been wearing big boy underwear for the past few weeks and either sitting him on the potty frequently and/or he tells us when he has to go pee, still putting a diaper on at bedtime and if he's at grandma's for naps (I've been keeping underwear on at naps when I'm at home with him). But for going poop he gives absolutely no indication beforehand and it seems pretty effortless for him with a very minor little grunt so we can catch him in the act sometimes. He isn't shy about it and will go poop in the middle of whatever he is doing (he isn't one of the kids that runs behind a chair to do their business, lol!!) He also does not seem to go at the same time every day so I can't time it to sit him on the toiletWe have tried redirecting and telling him what he needs to do, but so far no luck with a big huge mess tonight. Thank goodness I am a nurse and deal with this at work because DH was about to hurl on the floor. Any advice??

Re: Seriously, how do I get him to poop on the potty??
Jack had some accidents in the beginning, but we just made it a REALLY big deal when he would go poop on the potty. I mean, full on me and Dh singing "poopy on the potty, poopy on the potty" and cheering/clapping when he went poop.
I made a chart for when he peed and pooped and when he peed he got one sticker and when he pooped he got two stickers and a treat. Haha, he LOVED that!
After he got better at it, we didn't need the stickers or treats.
Good luck!
Did you ever imagine that a) poop would be such a common topic and b) that doing a potty song and dance would be a normal part of life
Oh my gosh, not at all! It's really kind of funny the things we do as parents. If only you could be a fly on the wall in my house....you'd surely get some laughs!
This is something I missed out on. The very first time Ava ever peed on the potty was right after a nap, so she was barely awake when I went into my cheering and seemed really freaked out by it. Since then she has shhh'd me and said "Mommy! STOP!" if I sing/cheer/whatever for her when she goes on the potty. It's fine if it's when we're playing, watching Fresh Beats, etc. but when she's going potty it's a no no. Modest girl.
