Ugh, so has anyone's doctor explained to them WHY applying heat to one's abdomen after O is particularly bad? i.e., what if anything happens to a sperm, egg or embryo if exposed to too much heat right around ovulation?
Context: I thought I would warm myself up a bit last night and applied a moist heat pad (one that you heat up in the microwave) to my tummy for a little while (it was warm for maybe 20 min, I guess; I fell asleep). DH and I had gotten busy a couple hours earlier, as well as the night before. It looks like I O'd yesterday, as my temp was up this morning.
And then this morning I Googled and discovered that a lot of doctors recommend avoiding heating pads after ovulation (or IUI or ET), but I couldn't find a good explanation why.
So I'm hoping I didn't just do something really stupid. Maybe it's no big deal, but my (hopefully irrational) fear is that it could do damage (if I was lucky enough to conceive), not just kill stuff off.
Any insights? TIA!

Re: Does heat pad + O = fail?
I really don't think it will do any harm especially since you just ovulated. Just don't apply anymore heat.
Also, I'm turning green with envy that your cold enough to need a heating pad.
Thanks, JM. Yeah, that's what I was worried about (birth defects). I feel silly for admitting it, but there it is. I suppose that if I actually manage to get a BFP then I'll ask my doctor about it. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid. It's just that, when I read that many RE's tell patients to avoid heating pads and hot tubs, I kind of freaked out.
But then, I also saw posts where heat was recommended (this was on a board for people who were trying to gender sway - for a girl, I believe, but don't quote me, either).
I'm not even sure where I got the idea from to try the darn heating pad... I guess I extrapolated too far from the idea that I should wear socks to bed and eat warm food.
Thanks again!

Thanks Chicken - yeah definitely no more applied heat for me!
Ha, I was freezing yesterday evening because we had the A/C on and while I was chilly, DH was hard at work packing boxes (we're moving at the end of the month) so he was still warm from exertion and didn't want to turn the A/C down.
If it makes you feel any better, It's still really gross and humid outside here, even though the rain has brought the temp down a bit.
