Do You Ever Call Your RE?

I have called my RE maybe 2x since I've been working with him (since Jan., through 2 IVFs).  Once it was b/c I had a question post ET about my embryos, and once it was for a phone WTF which he offered to do.

I just called him again to ask my question about whether frozen sperm was less effective in an IVF cycle b/c DH and I are trying to figure out some scheduling around our next IVF.  I totally feel guilty/like the problem patient calling him for something like that, but I didn't feel comfortable w/ the nurse's wishy-washy response and this is important.

Re: Do You Ever Call Your RE?

  • I haven't though I have just started cycling with him and am not doing IVF.  He gave me his direct number though just in case.  I think it is totally acceptable for you to call.

  • My WTF's are usually over the phone.  I haven't spoken to the doctor for other reasons, but it sounds like your question for the doctor was perfectly reasonable.  Since the nurse couldn't give you a definitive answer, it's good that you asked the doctor.  The answer is important to your cycle.

  • I think that calling your RE 3x since January is totally reasonable and you shouldn't feel bad... especially considering how much money, time and emotion you are putting into this process.

  • I think it is totally acceptable to call, but I know what you mean.  I've never called because I am afraid of being the problem patient.
  • I usually email my RE. If he's not busy he answers the emails himself but sometimes the nurses answer them. It's pretty handy and I don't feel bad bothering him. I know if he's busy one of the nurses will help me out. I don't think your situation is a lot at all!

  • I talk to her nurse when I call.  She has had good information some phone calls and other times it will be wishy washy.

  • I call my RE when I don't feel comfortable asking the question of my nurse.  He has never made me feel bad or annoying when I call and he always returns my calls quickly.  He has actually called me to check on me after the ER and ET.  Needless to say, I love him!

Also, to possibly help with your question, my RE said FET had just as good a chance as working for us as fresh.  And I did get pregnant with our first FET!  HTH and GL!

  • No, I've never called my RE. I honestly don't even know how I'd go about doing that..the only # they give out is for the nurse message line. My RE has called me once though, when I was in the hospital right before my surgery.

Yes, but at my REs, they expect me to do that.  They give really one-on-one attention....every time I go in, I see him and if I need to spend time consulting / talking, he makes the time.  I can also call at any time and he'll either speak to me or call me back later if he's busy.  I don't feel badly at all and they don't make me feel guilty....I spend so much $$ there (it's private so they're more expensive to begin with and all OOP for me) and thye pride themselves on their patient-dr attention.

  • I call my RE quite a bit and everytime I do he always says that if I have any other questions or concerns to never hesitate to call him.

I don't have a direct line, but you call the office and leave a message and they call you back that day.

I wonder if we go to the same place. I have emailed and called my RE directly countless times. He never made me feel like I was a bother. This practice is one of a kind though in that respect.

I would not feel guilty for calling. You are paying him a lot of $ and you are leaving the status of your life in his hands - its very important you feel confident with what you are doing.

  • I have only talked to my nurse. I think if he gave you his number that you should feel free to call him, I am sure you know what's important.
