I thought they were pretty good. They also do announcements and a calendar but we'd already pre-ordered our announcements (I got the envelopes early so I could address them). They had a pillow and blanket and took probably 20 different pictures. We had a little football rattle we had in the picture on a few other poses. Here's a link to our pictures.
Thanks for sharing. He is so cute! Do you have to order prints to get the images? I'm pretty sure I'm going to design my own announcements. Also, what size onesie did you have him in, newborn? I'm afraid my little guy will be swimming in his clothes!
I don't think they sell the rights to their images. I could be wrong but I don't remember that option. I think that's a 3mo onesie. It's been so long (he just turned a year old). They don't have smaller sports stuff though and that size was even hard to find. He was 8lb 10oz too so not little either. It was big but DH wanted him in Cowboys gear.
We had a very nice lady do ours. I do not think you get rights to the images though, but if you have a scanner or something and you are designing your own announcement, I don't see a problem.
I thought the only problem with the pics was that they were awfully pricey. I got the cheapest package at $29.99 and it included 1 8X10, 1 5X7 and 4 wallets.
Ours were ok. I wasn't overwhelmingly impressed, but they weren't bad either. If the link works, this is the one we chose - https://tinypic.com/r/nwemnl/3 (excuse the white block, I took our last name off though I realize if someone really wanted to, they could still figure it out lol) - and only got something like 4 wallets and 2 5x7's. It was around $40 for that package, so I do agree they are pricey. I just took my own photos at home to use for her announcements.
I didn't deliver at Hbg Hospital, but our hospital used the same company for newborn pics. We really weren't interested in the pics, since we already knew we were doing a professional newborn session w/DS later, but we wanted to get at least one (typical first time parents needing to document everything ), so we ordered the cheapest option and it still ended up being $30 w/shipping (which was $10). We both kind of went, "ah well..." and paid it, but having seen the pics that we had as our options, I wouldn't have bought any bigger of a photo package. The photog who did ours really did try to get the best she could, but DS wasn't feeling cooperative, so our options were limited.
As for clothing sizes - DS was 8 lbs 10 oz and 21.25" (so not exactly a small baby), and he fit perfectly into Carter's NB size. He never fit into Gerber's NB size, though - their stuff runs REALLY small. Unless you're anticipating a 10+ pounder or something, I'd think you'd be fine w/NB size clothes in most brands... even now, at 2 weeks old, DS swims in 3 mo size.
I took one look at the quality and the prices and decided against it. I asked DH to bring in a blanket form home and we got him dressed and I shot them myself on the bed. I had already sent out a photo with our "he's here" e-mail and I figured I'd have some better ones in a week or two for the announcements, so I didn't see a need to buy any.
