NBR: latex allergy? PIP

I went to the doctor today, had blood drawn, and the normal bandaid put on my arm afterwards.  I took it off when I got to my office around 10 this morning.  13 hours later I have a rash/reaction going on where the bandaid once was.  I have attached the best pic I could get of it (sorry - its had to take a good pic of this by myself).  Thoughts?

PIP not working for some reason - maybe a link will?

  • I cant see the pic.  Is it just my dorky laptop?

ETA:  Bandaid sensitivity is not the same as a latex allergy.  I get crazy rashy skin after tegaderm, bandaids, and tape, but it is an allergy to the adhesive, and not latex.

  • It looks like its the adhesive thats giving you the rash! I burned myself on my tummy a few months ago and put a brand of bandaid on (a total of 3 may I add) and the rash from that took longer to heal than the burn =/

  • Thanks, ladies.  It makes sense that it would be the adhesive and not the latex because I don't have this kind of reaction to all bandaids.  Will hydrocortisone cream fix me up?

  • Definitely looks like a reaction to the adhesive--you would DEFINITELY know if you had a latex allergy:)

     have a great day!

  • Like others said, it's the adhesive and not the latex. I do however have a latex allergy and boy you would know if you had one. Ouch!!
  • Yep, there are many kinds of bandaids that will give me a rash - it is funny to look at too because it looks like I have a red bandaid on when I take it off.

Also, I had a PA put adhesive on myskin before applying steristrips after one of my surgeries and I got blisters the size of walnuts! Now for the life of me I can't remember the name of the adhesive, but hopefully it is in my chart.
