Fibroids- any moms had these during pregnancy?

Hi all,

I don't post much, but wanted to see other mom's experiences.  I just got back from my 1st ultrasound- baby is measuring perfectly, saw/heard hb, so a very good appt!

During the ultrasound, the tech found a fibroid.  I never knew I had it and she said usually they don't pose a problem during pregnancy.  Just wanted to know if other moms had fibroids during pregnancy and if it caused any issues/problems.  I googled it but would like to hear responses.

Thanks!

Re: Fibroids- any moms had these during pregnancy?

  • I had it last pregnancy and just like you, I had no idea either. I never had a problem with it. My doc never brought it up again after the first U/S, I guess he was just letting me know about it. I never worried about it!

  • I have a couple of uterine fibroids, and they've presented no problems during this pregnancy. The u/s tech did measure them at the 1st u/s and has checked them ever since just to make sure nothing changes. From what I understand, they're fairly common. Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for your responses.  I appreciate it!
  • I have a very small one that was discovered during an u/s with my first pregnancy.  Mine did cause problems because it is located at the juncture of my tube and uterus, so they think my last pregnancy implanted on it and failed.  But if you're already at this point, and the pregnancy is not implanted on the fibroid, that won't be an issue for you.

They do grow during pregnancy (mine has tripled in size already).  Your doctor will just want to keep an eye on it to make sure that it won't interfere with baby's growth or delivery.  Odds are that it won't be an issue.

  • I have 2 small ones that showed up when I did fertility testing.  My doctor wasnt concerned at all because the size and location were ok.  Half of all women have fibroids and they usually dont cause a problem during pregnancy- the internet is full of horror stories but just keep in mind that all of the the women who DIDNT have issues are not writing about their expereinces.
  • Thanks again- I never had one (or they didn't find one) with  my son, so it is new to me.  The internet is full of scary stories, glad to hear most do not have problems in their pregnancies.
  • My doctor saw it and said that 25% of all women have them and it shouldn't be a problem.  I am so glad you posted this because I was concerned but hearing it isn't a big deal relieves me.  My mom told me she had them as well and it didn't affect her and her five kids.
