Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ???
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? He is 8 months old today!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? He got 3 teeth last week (thurs, fri, sat! - one/day) and learned how to sit up on his own last weekend!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 9 month checkup
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? teething and figuring out why he's crying when he wakes up (we mostly attribute it to teething)
(5) What do you wish you had known before becoming pregnant/becoming a mom that you didn't know?
-all the really weird things that are normal during pregnancy and how everyone's experience is different
-how hard breastfeeding is!
-how weird it is to love something so much!
(6) Are you building a library for baby? What are your favorite books for baby? Either ones you loved as a child, or ones your LO(s) loves now. not building intentionally, but we've got a bunch of books. we read 2 everynight and some during the days. I want to get Good Night Moon though.
We like the GoodNight Book by Sandra Boynton and Curious George's Good Night Book.
(7) Mamas: When do conversations between you and YH become more than just talk about the baby? When bills need to be paid, appts need to be made, etc. For us it's more about finding time to talk - we chat when I'm at work, but I'm not always paying full attention unless it's about the baby b/c, well, I'm trying to work also.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? I just had to count... 20 WEEKS today. That doesn't seem like a long amount of time, but wow he has changed much, and my life has changed so much
(in a good way!)
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Jack started going to daycare on Weds. He really likes it. DH goes to visit him at lunch and he was really happy to see his daddy but kept looking at the other baby like he couldn't wait to get back to play.
He is already learning to share
the other baby was playing with a musical toy and Jack would get a pouty face and cry (I bet it was his "fake-y" cry - one of his new tricks) anytime the music came on so the teacher thought the noise was upsetting him and started to try to get the other baby interested a different (quiet) toy and Jack reached over and pushed the buttons to make it play and started laughing. hahah, what a stinker!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? n/a
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? working on a routine to get Jack up and out of the house every morning.
(5) What do you wish you had known before becoming pregnant/becoming a mom that you didn't know? Hmmm will have to think about this.
(6) Are you building a library for baby? What are your favorite books for baby? Either ones you loved as a child, or ones your LO(s) loves now. Jack LOVES books. His eyes light up as soon as you grab one. This week's favs the book version of the Five little monkeys jump on the bed and I love you Stinky Face. My mom saved lots of my books (Berenstein Bears, Goldenbooks, Serendipity books, and others) so he had an instant collection but we add to it almost weekly.
(7) Mamas: When do conversations between you and YH become more than just talk about the baby? our lives pretty much revolve around Jack and our jobs but I don't think it bothers us that much??
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
5.5 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
The stress of the past several weeks has really gotten to me. My milk supply was affected by it so I am working to get it back up. I've lost 15 lbs. in the past 5 weeks and am fitting into clothing that I haven't worn since before I was married. I have started walking in the evenings with Libby so that has helped with relieving stress and I guess jump starting some more weight loss. I am down 45 lbs. since her birth (I only gained 20 lbs during the pregnancy).
Libby is developing every day...she's starting to scoot on her rear to get closer to things she wants to touch. She also seems to have gone through a little growth spurt...her head/face seem bigger!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Libby has her 6 month pedi appt. in August and I have my annual in August too.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Leaving my problems at the door and being a totally engaged mommy when I am home. It's getting better, but I am still breaking down into tears daily.
(5) What do you wish you had known before becoming pregnant/becoming a mom that you didn't know?
Nothing is predictable. Not your job, not your baby, not your body, nothings. Even if you do everything "right" something will go wrong so be ready to roll with it.
(6) Are you building a library for baby? What are your favorite books for baby? Either ones you loved as a child, or ones your LO(s) loves now.
Libby loves books and I got a great deal on them via Children's Book-of-the-Month Club. We have series of board books called "Rainbow Fish" that features counting, colors, etc. and she loves those. She also loves this other board book called "Whose Toes are Those" I like that the main character looks like her! She has a cloth book with ribbon tags from Taggies called "Sweet Dreams" that she adores and we read it each night before bed (it's only 6 pages but she loves to hold it and chew on it). We have some classics too...Goodnight Moon, How Much I Love You, On the Night You Were Born, The Giving Tree, etc. We also got a hysterical book from a friend called "Opera Cat" that we enjoy reading to her. She also likes "Daddy Cuddles" and "Mommy Loves" ...two more board books.
(7) Mamas: When do conversations between you and YH become more than just talk about the baby?
We make an effort everyday to talk about more than the baby, work and household chores so that we feel connected to each other. We've taken to walking after dinner (or on days when J works evenings we'll go in the mid-morning) and just enjoy nature, talk about life, dreams, goals, etc.
The first two weeks or so of her life were so exhausting we pretty much only talked about her...but after a while you start to find some balance.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 37 weeks, 5 days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Well, the biggest news was that we discovered at our weekly OB appt. that our little boy has decided to be a stinker and is breech. I was a little shocked when the doctor proposed a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks. I don't know why I was shocked, I guess I just didn't see it coming. We tried a manual version on Tuesday, which was unsuccessful (and, unfortunately, very painful). I have plans to try some at-home tricks this weekend, too (light, music, positioning, etc). We'll see where he is then on Monday at my next appt. If he's still breech on Monday morning, I have an appointment with an acupuncturist/herbalist on Monday afternoon. And if THAT doesn't work, well......we're scheduled for the c/s on the 22nd.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Like I said, Monday....fingers crossed for head-down!
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Dealing with the little surprise of "heads-up" we had! I've read a lot, and talked to a lot of people who have had c-sections in the past few days, and I feel a LOT better about the situation. I'd still prefer him to be head-down, but if not, I'm okay with this way, too. As long as he's healthy, I don't really care anymore how he comes out. It won't matter a bit in the long run.
(5) What do you wish you had known before becoming pregnant/becoming a mom that you didn't know? Expect the unexpected. There is no "textbook" pregnancy. I had very few of the "normal" pregnancy symptoms, but I did have some strange ones (hives, laryngitis).
(6) Are you building a library for baby? What are your favorite books for baby? Either ones you loved as a child, or ones your LO(s) loves now. Definitely! We have a great library so far, especially since one of my baby showers was book-themed, and people were supposed to bring a book with a message inside instead of a card with their gifts. Also, I'm a teacher, and teachers LOVE to give books as gifts! I read to him already most nights. So far, my favorites are "I Love You All the Time," and "On the Night You Were Born." Even though he hasn't been born yet! :P MH's favorite book for him is "The Giving Tree."
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Nearly 3 months old! They're 11 weeks and 5 days now.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Happy because my dad and stepmom are here! For the boys, they've both suddenly gotten waaaaay into sucking on their hands.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Still need to make that appointment to see my doc about birth control. We've been getting frisky so infrequently that I haven't felt a pressing need to do it (have just been using condoms).
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? It's not really a challenge yet, but my dad and stepmom are visiting (last week and this week) and Ben took last week off. It's been sooooo awesome to have all of the extra help with the boys, not to mention grown up conversations all day - I'm not looking forward to going back to doing everything alone.
Luckily my sister is coming out for 2 weeks right after my dad and stepmom leave, so I won't have to do that for a while.
(5) What do you wish you had known before becoming pregnant/becoming a mom that you didn't know? I agree with Lori - that nothing is predictable. Plan on whatever you want, but don't assume it will definitely happen, and be flexible when it doesn't. (For example, me and breastfeeding - I never thought I'd formula feed, but that's how it had to work out.)
(6) Are you building a library for baby? What are your favorite books for baby? Either ones you loved as a child, or ones your LO(s) loves now. Oh hells to the yes!
They're not really into my favorites yet (Frog and Toad, anything by Sendak, etc.). They love anything with lots of bright pictures and/or rhythmic phrasing - Schnitzel Von Krumm is a popular one with them, and I think they'd love Seuss so I need to pick up some of those for them.
(7) Mamas: When do conversations between you and YH become more than just talk about the baby? I'd say that probably half our conversations are either about the boys or lead to them in some way. I don't know if that's unusual? At any rate, we do talk about other things, and sometimes I make a special effort to do so.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? Do you secretly (or not so secretly lol) worry about if your child meets developmental milestones right on track?(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Good! We found out a week ago tomorrow that we're having a boy!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 3 weeks, normal appt
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? not really BR, but still, sleep. been traveling and really busy since wednesday, really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and having a weekend to myself!
(5) What do you wish you had known before becoming pregnant/becoming a mom that you didn't know? we'll see!
(6) Are you building a library for baby? What are your favorite books for baby? Either ones you loved as a child, or ones your LO(s) loves now. we definitely plan to. we've gotten the hungry caterpillar as a gift, and i bought DH 2 daddy and me type books. i love seeing everyone else's answers to this! lots of great ideas.
