March 2011 Moms

nothing but worry

It was my first time "trying". and I wasn't even trying. Got my first BFP, and the dr.'s appointment is set for friday. I had my last real period before our wedding, but thinking back to it now, it was lighter and didn't last as long as normal. Then I had a very very light one before the honeymoon, that I'm now pretty sure was just spotting. The BFP came last week, so I could be 4 weeks? Maybe 5?

Now I'm very nervous I'm not pregnant at all. What if all those at home tests were wrong? (I took 6 and they all said positive in about 5 seconds, very clear). Or what if I'm actually 8 weeks and that period before the wedding was so light b/c it was also just spotting?

Wow this whole thing is driving me crazy. Can't wait for Friday. So hoping it's good news. How do you deal with the worry?

Re: nothing but worry

  • First of all, congrats!! 6 HPTs aren't going to lie to you. :)

I think it's important to just enjoy being pregnant. Worrying too much isn't good for you or the baby. Find something to keep yourself busy. I've found some great books to read, and I'm working on my Master's, so that's a great distraction.

  • That many pregnancy tests are not going to be wrong so congrats.  If you really have any questions about when you conceived, your doctor will probably want to do an ultrasound to date the pregnancy.

It's completely normal to worry, but you just have to try to focus on something else and not let the worry consume you.  Good luck!

  • I'm also a worrywart by nature :/ I guess it will only get worse for the both of us with motherhood!  There is nothing you can do but wait and see how far along your OB dates your pregnancy.  You are taking care of yourself now & that's what you can control.  If you have had 6 + tests, you are pregnant and should be focusing on that excitement :)

  • When was your wedding? I'm guessing you're farther along than 5 weeks.
  • Wedding was June 12th! We took the honeymoon two weeks later. It happened fast!

  • I doubt that 6 HPT's were wrong. You're pregnant. If you're unsure of when you conceived talk to your doctor and have them do an u/s to date your pregnancy. Between now and then just try to stay calm and focus on something else. Worrying won't do you or the baby and good (easier said that done, I know). Keep us updated!
