your dipes, clearly.
we've got some stink probs for the first time, and i'm thinking it might be build-up. time to strip? our entire stash is more than 1 load. so practically, do you strip 1 batch and road test them a bit to see if it works before tackling the rest of the stash? or just do them all in 1 big ole laundry fest?
Re: if you've stripped... (napr)
What I did was boil the inserts (microfiber inserts) -- that took care of it and was less of a hassle IMO than stripping with Dawn and rinse, rinse, rinsing...
We just got out our big ole stock pot and went to town one night after dinner.
I strip as I go, with each load. I was washing as normal and then stripping, but I found that washing the load with the Dawn, then running another wash as the "strip" cycle actually got things cleaner and saved time.
I wash every other day, so as one load is coming out freshly stripped, the next load is going in. I only strip whene needed, about once every 2 months right now.
What is "RLR"?

I usually do a BIG strip-fest and do everything all at once. Sometimes, it'll take an entire day! But when it's done, it's done and everything is good and clean again.
Here's a link with some ideas: https://www.zany-zebra.com/stripping-cloth-diapers.shtml
And I think some of the other ladies have some really good ideas too. I might have to try some of them next time things get a little stinky around my house.
And RLR is a stripping product. https://www.momsmilkboutique.com/RLR.html
What is stripping? Is it different in regards to CDs compared to wraps?
Stripping is taking your cloth diapers and removing any buildup of detergents, which can trap in stink and bacteria.
The only strip-like thing I have done in 18 months is a soak with Rockin Green overnight, then a bunch of rinses. Super easy, can be done in a front loader, and didn't have to buy anything else b/c can use RnG as the diaper detergent.
i'm not sure what we should try first.
these are all good ideas. i'm pondering...
Pick me! Boil boil boil -- it's so easy. And seriously the leftover suds just flood out. I even *gasp* did some Happy Heiney shells I bought used from diaperswappers just to feel better about the used factor (have since gotten over that) and it worked like a dream
so do you boil, rinse, boil until they are suds-free? or do you skim the boiling water as they bubble away?
i'd totally do it for our microfiber inserts, but i'm not sure about boiling the hemp or bamboo. serious shrinkage possibilities? our FL washer has an "xtra sanitary" setting on it that gets up to 170. i wonder if that would do it.
Boiled for... 15 minutes? Dumped the whole thing into the wash, spun out the water, rinse. Done. I know you can prep hemp and bamboo by boiling so I'm not sure why they'd shrink. (Do I know that? I think I do...) Did you check the EFF blog? That's where I got the idea. "Xtra Sanitary" sounds good but we have an ancient top loader w/o that option. I also think it's worth mentioning -- I've only had to do this once in 11 months, I mean I get that some people strip as a matter of course with CDing but it's not something I want to do. This one boil got everything good and clean and that's it.
that makes sense about the hemp + bamboo. i don't know quite where i got the shrinking idea. they do shrink some when you prep them but since these are already prepped, their shrinking days should be over.
i'm with you on a 1 time option. we've never had to strip our dipes before, and i'm not hot to make that a regular part of our routine. plus, another benefit of boiling: i don't have to go buy/order anything tonight!
i prolly should have asked on the EFF board, but i'm here more often so i defaulted
i didn't think to check the blog though. good idea.
since you're in my part of the world, do you think we have hard water? i keep reading that you really *need* a dipes detergent that fits your water, but i've never known whether the water here counted as 'hard.'
yes, i'm thinking the sanitary cycle would be w/o detergent, assuming you're starting w/clean (but stinky) dipes. if they're soiled, you'd obviously deal with that first
i love that big lots!!
we're using crunchy clean, but it is still their "old" formula. i read on EFF that their newer formula isn't as good. people started having problems. i'm not sure what we'll do when it runs out.
