EBF moms...

How often are you nursing your LO? On demand or waking them every 2.5-3 hours? Also, how do you get anything done! I feel like as soon as he is done nursing I only have 30 mins and then he's nursing again!

Re: EBF moms...

  • I am nursing on demand. It is time consuming but I was blessed with a great sleeper. She goes down for the night at about 10 pm and wakes at 3 or 4 am to nurse and then she will sleep sometimes until 10 or 11 a.m.?

  • now it's ever 2.5-3 hours.  at night maybe 4 if i'm lucky.  it's on demand now, but at first i had to wake her for 3 wks b/c she was slow to gain weight.  last week for her growth spurt she was on the boob from 6pm til she fell asleep nearly constantly.

moby wrap helps with getting stuff done.

  • It gets better!  I promise.  I nurse on demand and the first month or so it felt like I couldn't move...seriously I was couch bound and DH had to get all the meals...get me water..etc.  I was nursing him about every 1 to 1.5 hours and he would take his time...fall asleep etc.  I am happy to say that he now nurses quite efficiently and it is SOO much easier!  In fact- he sttn last night for the first time ever!!

    Hang in there :)

  • I usually have to wake him up...but, sometimes he wakes on his own. Last night he woke every 2 hours on the dot... As for getting things done, I'm no expert...I try to squeeze in whatever I can...I usually nap with him for the first sleep/feed of the day...
  • I nurse on demand. Usually it's every 2.5-3 hours, but he has times of cluster feeding every hour. I usually nurse, lay him back down if he's snoozing, then either take a nap with him or get a chore done. It takes me a while to get things done, but by the end of the day I am usually able to get the kitchen cleaned up in between one set of feedings, cook lunch/dinner between another set, shower between one, etc.

It's tough! I wish my DH helped a little more, but EBF it's not quite so easy. He does do the laundry and takes care of the dog.

  • On demand. And no, I don't get much done. Sounds like your LO may be going through a growth spurt though. I generally have a minimum of 2 hours b/t feedings except when she went through her gs.

  • I nurse on demand.  I haven't woken DS for a feed since he reached his birthweight.  Except for when he was still sleeping in his carseat at 10:30 and I wanted to go to bed!  Usually he goes for 2.5-3 hours between feeds, but sometimes will feed every hour on the hour, which is quite annoying.  Lately when he's done that, he's projectile vomitted it back at me so I think he was just nursing for comfort.  I'm still trying to get him to take a pacifier to prevent this type of trouble.

ETA:  Oh, and I don't get much done.  He usually naps in his swing in the morning so that's pretty much the only time I get to shower, do laundry etc.  In the afternoon he may or may not take a nap, but sometimes going out in the car will put hm to sleep and I can go shopping.  Though today we didn't make it to the grocery store.  He's sleeping fine now though.  DOH!

  • I nurse on demand. During the day she seems to eat every 2 hrs on the dot, and at night will go 4-6 hrs until 8am, then we sleep till 10am and our day starts. Getting things done.....my DD will take a total of 4 naps a day varying from 45 mins to 1.5 hrs. I take one nap with her and the rest I run around the house like crazy doing housework and getting the dogs fed, played with and pottied! I leave the laundry and a few other chores each day for DH to knock out when he gets home.

Getting out of the house is the hardest for me. It throws off her schedule and I end up with an overtired cranky baby by bedtime. Makes me not really want to go out.

  • I am nursing on demand. He will usually go 1.5-2 hours during the day. The longest stretch has been 3.5 hours in the night...not usual though. I hardly get anything done so I just tend to carry him around when he's awake to do laundry, dishes, etc. I'm hoping he'll start to sleep longer in the night.

  • nursing on demand about every 2 hours.  I race around and do things as soon as she's asleep.

Once a baby hits their birth weight, there is really no need to wake them to eat.

Same here. I feed on demand. It's getting better now at 7 weeks, but the first several weeks I swear all I did during the day was feed him! He would take 45 mins to eat, then I would have an hour or so before it was time to eat again.
