HI ladies, I am moving to Mobile this month AND I just found out I am expecting. I have no idea where to start in looking for a doctor or hospital for L&D. Any recommendations or experiences out there? Thanks!
Congrats and welcome to Mobile! I am Amanda and live in the South end of the county.
I loved everyone I worked with during my pregnancy and delivery! Dr. Helen Rogers with Obstetrics and Gynocology at Mobile Infirmary. She was great throughout my pregnancy and had wonderful bedside manner. She was very honest and never pushed me to do something I wasn't comfortable with. I delivered at Mobile Infirmary as well. The birthing class instructor was so sweet and made me feel so much more comfortable and confident in what I was doing. She even came to visit after Madi was born. The nurses in L&D were phenemoninal! They were so supportive and helped me keep the room clear of visitors (MIL wanted to be in the room for delivery). The rooms were a nice size too. The post-partum rooms weren't that great of a size, but again, it helps to limit the number of visitors at one time. Too much can be overwhelming. The nursery nurses were great! They helped me when I would have BF questions and issues. Even at 2 am! I have no doubt I will be using the same people when it comes time to do it again.
Good luck with everthing! There are quite a few of us Mobilians on here so feel free to ask any questions.

Congratulations and Welcome. I live in Baldwin County but I use Dr. Helen Rogers also. I can't say enough about her. She is wonderful and I feel so comfortable with her.

I see Dr. Max Rogers with the same group (I believe they are just called Obstetrics & Gynecology Inc). The are located right next to the hospital - I believe the address is 3 Mobile Infirmary Circle. Anyway, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about him. I did also see Dr. Helen Rogers while after my son was born!
The hospital (Mobile Infirmary) is a pretty "no frills" place as far as the rooms and such, but I agree w/PP about the staff - everyone I dealt with when both of my babies were born were nothing short of FABULOUS!
Thanks for the info! I'll have to look up that group. Have you heard anything about the docs or L&D at USA Women & Childrens? I will be employed by South and would get an additional discount if I use their hospital.
Welcome to Mobile! I normally just lurk on this board, but I figured I would weigh in on this one. I used a wonderful midwife (the only one in town) Cynthia Messer at Women's & Childrens. I cannot say enough good things about her. I actually switched from my induction & c-section happy OB (Dr. Morrison-Barton at the Infirmary) to Cynthia when I was about 32 weeks. Best decision ever. I'm about 6.5 weeks with #2 right now and will be using her again. All this being said - I also take a pro-natural viewpoint on childbirth and really wanted to try my hardest to avoid any type of unnecessary intervention.
Children's & Womens is a great hospital to deliver at. I know that all the other hospitals in the area send their intensive care babies there because they have the needed resources/are the best for those situations. The hospital itself is older and not as "nice looking" as others. I don't know of a nice way to say this, so I'll just be blunt - it's also the town's Medicaid hospital. You're likely to meet/see some very interesting characters during your stay. But if you choose to be there ("private patient" as they will refer to you as) you will be treated like gold. Sad, but true.
I have 2 other friends that used Dr. Max Rogers at the Infirmary. One hated him b/c he acted like everything was wonderful up until the last couple weeks, then started wanting to schedule an induction because he was going out of town soon. She declined and I think there were some uncomfortable words exchanged. She was actually relieved when she went into labor and he was out of town and couldn't attend her birth. My other friend just delivered 2 days ago, so I haven't gotten a good chance to talk to her about her experience yet. Both of these moms were also wanting natural childbirth as well though.
Good luck on your decision! My best advice is to schedule consultations with a few different providers before you make your decision. I didn't do this initially and that is how I ended up with my 1st OB, and then had to switch last minute. And welcome to town! I live in West Mobile, near Dawes Rd. if you have any more questions.
Hi ladies, so I made to Mobile! Getting settled in and finding our way around. Unfortunately, finding an ob that I connect with (and is covered by ins) has been difficult. I have had two visits with a doc, he seems very capable and his patients say he is great but I am finding him very disconnected and hard to talk to. He hasn't really given me any information/education, don't know about results of tests, what tests were run, options for screening/testing, what to expect. My husband things that I just need to ask the questions, but I really don't even know what to ask and was kind of hoping for a provider that would lead me through the process.
Insurance is an issues, we have Cigna. While the providers at Providence are credentialed, the hospital isn't. USA physicians are on panel but they bill as a practice and the practice isn't on the panel. The previously mentioned Dr. Rogers isn't on the panel either! Are there any other suggestions out there? We know no one in town and don't really have any one else to ask.
