It went well. She wants me to start on Clomid. At first she told me that we didn't need to have DH's SA done now, but I insisted and he did. She did bloodwork and I go back tomorrow for a CD 5 ultrasound.
One question. She said she wouldn't recommend a HSG because it's obvious from my charts and prior bw that I'm not ovulating. I said that I would like one anyways, and she agreed. However, if I do one, I may have to pay OOP (which we can afford) and then if we do one she said no unprotected sex prior to it. However, if I do start Clomid tomorrow (based on the results from tomorrow's us) would it be a waste? She said no matter what she wants me to start Clomid to make sure I respond to it. Should I take it and try one cycle without an HSG and then schedule one? I felt comfortable with everything else in regards to monitoring, but am not sure about this. What do you think?
Re: Back from first RE appt.
I'm glad that you spoke up about getting an SA. Those results will be important to have.
I think your next step is up to you and your DH but on HSG will show if there is a blocked tube or any firbroids or pylops in your ute.
Our gut feeling is to postpone the HSG until we do one round of Clomid. However, after reading all the stories about proper Clomid monitoring, I'm not sure. How risky is it to do it without an HSG?
I have not taken Clomid so I can't answer that. There are plenty of ladies on this board that have and can give you input.
In the end you need to do what you think is best for your body. Good luck!!
Good for you for speaking up regarding getting DH's SA and a HSG for you. Those tests are important! I guess you could start clomid this cycle, but if you do an HSG this cycle also, it would be a waste of the clomid because you can't have sex before the HSG. But, then again, you could take it just to see how you respond, that way after the HSG you'll know if you need to switch to a higher dose or a different medicine all together. Personally, I don't think I'd do the clomid this cycle, and not an HSG, because if you don't get pregnant, that's another cycle wasted, because you'll have to get the HSG the next cycle. So, might as well get it done sooner, rather than later.
For what it's worth, it seems that most drs like to have an hsg done on patients before prescribing clomid.
You can take it and hopefully get your HSG before you even ovulate. Our radiology department will only do them on CD7 - CD11. If it were me and they couldn't get me in those days, I would wait until the next one.
GL with the clomid and the SA results!
