i have food allergies, so we've been very cautious about giving dd peanut products. we got brave and gave her chick-fil-a for the first time last weekend. of course she loved it - who wouldn't?
we're always looking for things to try that dd might like as she's entered her "picky eater" phase. did you wait for permission from your pedi for giving peanut butter?
Re: giving peanut butter for the first time
We didn't wait and I am glad we didn't as my son is in daycare and I really needed to know if he had an allergy to warn the school as it is not a peanut free school - only classrooms are as needed. He does have a moderate to severe peanut allergy which was confirmed by the allergist. I found out at about 14 months. We now have to carry an Epi pen and daycare also keeps one on hand just in case.
I suggest having benadryl on hand if you think it's likely she will have one and trying the tiniest amount. If they are allergic it won't take much to trigger.
my grandmother gave truitt a peanut butter cup when he was 7 months old. you can imagine the horror on my face when i saw that in the rearview mirror. anyway, neither DH nor I have any food allergies so after the Reece's incident we just let the PB fly. With Mathis, I let him have it when he was about 11 mos since we had no issues with T. My kids both also had shell fish and honey under 2...
I don't think this is the kind of thing you need pedi's permission for. We all know the CW on food allergies. We all also know that the jury is still out about the benefits of holding off.
