If you use Enfamil Gentlease - come in

We just (yesterday) switched from the regular lipil to the gentlease due to issues with constipation, gas and spit up. The smell is WAY worse and her spit up is almost as gross as an adults! I also don't see a change at feeding time (she fusses and grunts) although it's only been 24hrs! I don't exactly know what is so different from the regular lipil -- is it just more broken down?

I'd love to hear from you girls why you switched and if it helped any issue your DC had.  Thanks!!!

Re: If you use Enfamil Gentlease - come in

  • it's made with corn syrup solids (non dairy creamer) we used it for a few feedings and dd threw up most of it, then i read the ingredients...yuck! so we switched to good start. it's made with whey protein (easier to digest and doesn't curdle in her belly)

  • It is more broken down. You need to try a whole can before you can really rule it out. Baby needs to get used to it. DD uses this, we used similac sensitive for a really long time, but she was getting so constipated. She now does not get constipated and she spits up less. I noticed when I first gave her the gentelease, she spit up a little more for about a wk, then it stopped!

  • We switched yesterday too. I don't see what you are seeing. Pedi said to give it 4 days to see results.

Pedi was saying that he likes to stick to the two main formulas (Enfamil and Similac) cause they are made by pharmeceutical companies...But, if we see no results, we will consider going to Good Start.

  • I tried Similac Advance and Similac Sensitive and she was constipated, had tons of gas, and was spitting up alot on both.

I switched to Enfamil Gentlease and she stopped spitting up and her poop is alot better now, although I do have to give her an ounce of prune juice every day to every other day to help it along (I have tons of stomach issues though so i'm sure she gets that from me. haha)  I also was giving her 1 dose of gas drops every day but now that I think of it, I haven't given her any in about 2 wks (since I started giving her the prune juice I guess.)

I agree w/pp's, you need to give it longer than a day to see if it helps.  She still probably has the other formula in her system yet and it's trying to work itself out.

  • We used it for 6 weeks (switched from reg enfamil) for the same reasons you stated.  I saw zero improvement and finally got to my breaking point on Monday and switched to GoodStart, after several girlfriends of mine recommended it.  Just FYI--i've read that dr's don't "endorse" good start b/c the pharmacutical reps give them the samples of enfamil and similac so you're probably not going to get a recommendation from your dr for the good start. It's been three full days for us and I've seen an improvement in the gas and constipation.
