I've tried the lanisoh cream. Her latch seems to be right-on. Yet I have such sore nipples that I dread most feedings. It's only been a week... any advice that really works?
It will be like that for a while - there were times when I was near tears while breast feeding. It does get better though if you stick it out. I found expressing some breast milk and letting it dry on your nipples after feeding helped - also let your breasts air dry, that helped me too.
Just hang in there. It gets better. And then, it will likely get bad again. BFing (at least for me) is a rollercoaster of struggles, but so worth it.
It took 2 weeks for my DS and I to get a good latch and for my nips to toughen up.
Then at 2 months DS reverted back to a bad latch because of his pacifiers (I reccomend soothie pacifiers by the way, it keeps DC from learning to 'chomp' while sucking).
Now at nearly 3 months I'm getting over a bout of mastitis and DS and I got thrush from the antibiotics!
For now get some Medela or Ameda hydrogel pads. They carry the Medela ones at Target. They were a saving grace for me in the beginning. Put them in the fridge and they're even better.
Hope that helps. Dont give up.

This is normal. I still have sore nipples, though they are much better. From about 5 days to 2 weeks, I dreaded feeding her and cried a lot. I even resented my baby a little for putting me through all that pain.
Take it one feeding at a time. It will get better.

I do have the hydrogel soothies (from Target) too, and they do help, but at $7 for three applications, they just aren't a good ongoing solution. I save them for when it gets really bad, but I'd like to do something more frequently to get back to enjoying BF time. I really loved it the first few days, then it got painful and by the end of each day I'm gritting my teeth, counting the minutes... *sigh*
nothing really significantly helped for me. Just keep doing what you're doing - lenolin (can get lenolin mist from target...easier/less painful to apply), wash nips w/ cold water after feedings. I feel your pain. For me breastfeeding became totally painless by 2.5 months. Just hang in there & try to tough it out. You'll be really proud of yourself if you can make it through this first month or two and keep going.
Re: BF - my nips really hurt. a lot.
