am I the only one who doesn't measure?

I try to respond to posts about how much your LO eats but I always have to strain my brain to figure out approx how much he intakes. I never measure cereal anymore, or food that comes out of a jar. the only thing i can easily know off hand is home made food because it's in cubes

so do you still measure?

  • I do not measure.

  • I measure out her bottles for daycare and that's it.  When she is with me, I nurse her.  And when making her cereal, I just pour into the bowl what looks to be the right amount to me.  Sometimes she completely finishes, sometimes not.

We will be starting other solids soon.  I'll probably end up eye balling that too after starting.

  • His bowls of oatmeal come in two sizes: a big, hefty glob and a little glob.

    So no, I don't measure. :)

  • nope.  I know about how much she eats b/c my freezer containers are like 9 oz.  She eats about half of the container at a sitting.  She really doesn't eat cereal or oatmeal anymore unless its something that needs to be thickened up.
  • I sort of do.....we do about a Tblsp of oatmeal at night with 1/2 jar of fruit or veggie but sometimes he'll eat the entire jar.  morning DH will give him a Tblsp of oatmeal and 1/2 jar of fruit/veggie.  I think we are going to try to go to 3 meals this weekend to see how that goes.
  • I have never measured.

I measure obsessively but it's because she is very slow to gain weight - if she were average or larger than average, I wouldn't bother!

  • The containers I have to freeze his food are 2oz...I don't even measure when I put the food in them...could be 2oz...1.5oz...2.2oz...I don't know.
  • I measure BM. But, solids no. If she eats it, she eats it. It's not like the girl ever misses a meal!

  • Nope, I don't measure... I estimate! :)
  • I kind of measure.  Like I know that a scoop of cereal is "about" 1 oz, same with the homemade food cubes ... they are "about" 1oz.

Usually for meals and snacks, she gets 3 - 4 oz of solid food, (1 meat/protein, 1 veggie, 1 scoop cereal OR for a snack 2oz fruit/veggie + 1 scoop cereal) and 4 oz bottle.  She eats 5 - 6 times per day, so do some back of the envelope calculations ... I have an idea of how much she eats.

  • I do approximates.

  • Nah.  I eyeball the oatmeal and pretty much give a combo of that and a puree and/or real food until he tells me he's full.
