Q - how to entertain a 7-week old?

I've got Mr. S. mostly in his playpen during the day. I've got a soccer-ball (with a bell in it), one of those fabric books that crinkle, a rattler, a "mobile phone" and a musical mobile in it. So he has enough toys to play with (I think the ball might be his favorite at the moment.)

Of course I try to incorporate several occasions of tummy time during the day, but I have to try really hard to make him move his head from side to side.

And I cuddle after his bottle, but what else can I try to keep Mr.S. entertained, I don't want to over-stimulate him, but I don't want him to get bored lying around all day....

TIA!

Re: Q - how to entertain a 7-week old?

  • I rarely have G lying down.....I put G in her boppy and read her stories, I put her in her bouncy and she watches baby mozart (and yes she did this at 7 weeks old and loved it). We sing songs. We take walks around the neighborhood, and we do tummy time. It is hard to entertain a 7 week old lol, but I think you are doing a great job so far :) G also had very good head control and leg muscles and loves to stand up and bounce on my knees etc....

Boy they are a lot of work lol

  • You can fake them into getting tummy time by setting them on your chest an lying back a bit. Hayden used to love that. Like Mel said- lots of songs & walks outside or to the store so they can check out their surroundings! ;-)
  • Ian loves just being with us.  I put him in the boppy and put him in whatever room I'm cleaning or whatever so long as I'm moving and talking to him.  Ditto on singing and stroller walks.
