I've always heard mothers say that when they hear their baby cry it's like someone is ripping their heart out and I always thought they were exaggerating a bit. Turns out they were exactly right!

DH has her right now and she was howling through a diaper change and it took every ounce of my self control not to run in there (or waddle as fast as I could) and try to fix everything. He got it under control and now she's dry, swaddled and in his arms. (he just reported that she just flicked him off ) So all is well.

When I'm babysitting I obviously respond to cries but they don't tear me up inside! I guess this is how motherhood is different from all of the nannying I've done

She will have you wrapped around your finger. It is definitely different then any nannying job.

What they also don't tell you is that you're liable to have a letdown when someone else's baby cries... that was a surprise to me, lol

It feels exactly like that. I can't get my DH to understand how it makes me feel when he cries and DH wants me to let him CIO.
