the fridge. FFS. It was nice otherwise, but with railroad style bedrooms, which I cannot stand. The people were super, super nice and so sincere. They let us look in their house to see how their furniture was set up, since all of the bedrooms are kind of small.
IDK. There are no lights in the ceilings, so we'd have to buy a crapload of lamps, plus the fridge. I am *meh* on it. 50/50 on the good/bad. D was almost sold, then was trying to talk himself out of it.
We'll probably pass. they did say we could move in right away and wouldn't charge us rent of july. They were doing on hell of a sales job. LOL.
Re: We looked at an apartment tonight where we need to supply
Oh, I just called on a house this morning and was informed that there was no fridge or oven. WTF. How do you rent a house w/o major kitchen appliances.
Fridges and ovens are not one size fits all you can't just lug it from place to place.
Sounds like your house hunt could be better. I hope you find something soon.
What are railroad style bedrooms?
Our house has no overhead lights in the bedrooms or living room and it is a pain in the ass. Plus if you plan to stay in apartments for awhile then I wouldn't want to pay for a fridge, in case you move again and can't take it with you, but I'm sure you've thought of that.
I rented a house that didn't come with appliances a few years ago. The light thing annoyed me. There weren't light switches, so you'd have to turn on all of the lamps by hand. I bought a fridge and stove at a used appliance store with a warranty just in case something was wrong with it. I was able to resell it for about the same price. Fridges are expensive new.
What are railroad style bedrooms?
In my old apartment, a fridge was not included. I was lucky and inherited the fridge that was there, because the guy who lived there before he was in jail, and probably not coming back for his fridge!
When I moved out, I left it, so somebody else got lucky too.
Possibly dumb question, but what are railroad style bedrooms?
And I cannot fathom dealing with renting like that. Everything that I have ever rented has been in a complex with one manager or through a rental company where you could go look at 4 or 5 of their listings in a few hours.
Railroad style is when you have to walk through one room to get to the next. So, through the door to Oisin's room, on the other side is the door to the 2nd bedroom and across that room the door to the master.
There are whole apartments that are set up like that in NYC. I've never seen so many in my life with just the bedrooms set up like that. Almost every one we've looked at has been RR style.
this is a floor plan of a RR apartment. They ones we have seen only have the bedrooms like this, but you can see was a holy PITA it would be.
Ugh that sounds awful. So you'd have to walk through Oisin's room to get to your room? Wouldn't you wake him up?
You have to take people through your bedroom to get to the living room? No way. My bedroom is the room I don't have to clean/keep organized. I would never make it.
Eww that sucks! My hs boyfriend had a bedroom that led to their game room and it always sucked when we were trying to make out and his mom walked through to go to the gameroom or from the game room to their bedroom.
