? from 3rd tri-- what level of contraction (on monitor) did you start feeling?

I turn 40 weeks tomorrow and had to go into my doctor's office today for a NST (due to not feeling movement).  thankfully he was ok, but I was not feeling contractions that were regularly coming at 7 minutes apart.

they were mostly in teh upper 30s and 40s... so obviously these must not be real ones.   I am just trying to understand what number you should look for to know when you would feel it.   My doctor seemed a little surprised that I could not feel the ones that were in teh 40s, but she just said... lucky you.

Anyways-- I "know" I am being a paranoid 1st timer, but it does kind of scare me that I have never felt a braxton hicks, hardly feel LO move (hense the NSTs), did not hardly get pregnancy symptoms, and now don't feel contractions.  I am just nervous that it means I will not just "know" when I am in labor the way most people say you just do.   I logically know it will be so painful that I won't be able to not know, but I just have had such different experiences so far that it scares me.

Any encouraging words or advice on what level to look for at my next NST?

  • Mine were over 100, but not regular during my NSTs. They were uncomfortable, but manageable.

With my first PG I was like you.  I would be hooked up to the monitor contracting like crazy and really had know idea.  I didnt "really" know what it felt like till I was in the hospital, then I learned what a contraction was.  Mine were off the charts, the line would go up flat line across then finally come down, so I would say my numbers were in the 100's. With my 2nd PG everything was totally different.   You will know when your in labor don't worry.  Every body's labor is different.  GL

  • When I was in the hospital and started contracting they kept asking me if I was feeling them, but I didn't feel a thing. From what I understand though, everyone is different and the monitor is not a pain calculator so what appears to be a small and painful contraction for one woman may be a large and painless one for another. When mine started going off the charts and were like long hills that is when it was getting too much. Also my doctor told me that the monitor can only go so high, they can be much worse than what the monitor can show.
