DD is turning 6 in a month. Jeez, does time fly. In the past we've always had a big party and cookout at my parent's house. Now that DS is older I feel like he gets the shaft having a January birthday that people usually can't attend because of snow, holidays etc.
I was thinking of having a few friends and family members at Chuck E Cheese to celebrate, but DD has other things in mind. She's already planning a huge celebration like we've always had in the past.
WDYT? Chuck E Cheese or Big BBQ Blowout?
Also, would it be weird to ask people to get her back to school stuff in lieu of gifts? She starts school 3 days later. I tried the no gift thing to no avail last year and we absolutely do not have room for anymore toys in our house.
Re: Birthday help please.
You see what I'm up against? She's too smart and hard to say no to. Poor O. I know how sad it is to have a boring, winter birthday.
Wasn't she four like yesterday? They grow up too fast. I love your idea for school supplies...just love it. Chuck E Cheese is so much fun at that age. I do not know anything about the other choice. You can't go wrong. She will adore you for whatever you decide to choose. Good luck.
I envy you, oh great one!
ETA: Duh...time for me to go to bed. BBQs are fun too. I totally misread that as some new, undiscovered place. Urrrgh.
I think Sara's idea of a small gathering (you, O, A, & BFF) at Chuck E Cheese and a larger BBQ would be perfect. It's probably one of the last years to do the big family party before she wants more and more school friends invited.
I would not be offended with a suggestion of school supplies either. I would MUCH rather buy something I know the child needs/will use than some random toy that I think looks cool.
I can't believe she's going to be 6!

We stopped doing a big party for M a couple years ago. It was too much money! Now we have cake and ice cream with the family and she gets to have a couple of friends come over for a birthday slumber party. I think the school supply idea is great! This year instead of a bunch of toys we got a bunch of people to go in on sending her to summer camp for a week. She finds out tomorrow and will be super excited. I love being able to do something different that doesn't result in us having a bunch of stuff she doesn't need. And its not something we could afford to do on our own. Anywho - love the school supply idea and think less is more when it comes to the party.
