Honestly, and take it from a mom who's been there, I generally let my kids pick out their stuff at Target and save myself some money. In the preschool years, and even in elementary school, their tastes change so whimsically that every few months they can have a new favorite "style." I bought each kid a comforter in a basic color and let them pick the sheets.
Seriously, your LO could pick out that darling pink polka comforter and those luscious gingham sheets today and then in a year decide that those are "baby" things and that she really wants sheets with butterflies, or Dora, or rocket ships, or whatever. You'll be stuck with a couple hundred dollars worth of bedding that you'll hardly ever use again, and you'll be in the market for something new.
Unless bedding from a discount store is of a lower quality than you can stand, don't spend a ton of money on this initial purchase of big girl bedding because it's likely that your DD will go through several preference phases before she's even in kindergarten.

Summer 2011
I got both sets at HomeGoods, but my kids didn't pick them out! LOL!
I like the stuff from Land of Nod as well.
When we bought both the kids new beds we bought new bedsets to go with. We ended up getting them at Target because they were adorable.
