DH and I just had teriyaki chicken and rice for dinner, and I realized after we ate that the pre-made teriyaki sauce had sherry in it. I know it's probably fine, but this got me thinking- do/would you still cook with alcohol during pregnancy?
I had chicken marsala last night from Cheesecake factory and I know they put some cooking wine in it. I don't think it is nearly enough to be concerned about, but it is something to think about. I won't do it b/c I don't see the point...it adds flavor, but I'd rather stay alcohol free during my pregnancy than add flavor to my food.
cooking burns off most of the alcohol. Even if it didn't, it's like a 1/2 c. if that in most recipes. Divided over 2 people. Do you really think that would not get metastasized by your liver before it crossed the placenta?

Contrary to what you hear all the time, the alcohol doesn't "burn off" with cooking. A good deal is left, particularly if it hasn't been cooked for long (like a flambe). So I wouldn't eat something drenched in vodka, but a sauce with some sherry is fine.
It's fine. Even if it doesn't burn off, which it does, there's not enough in a recipe (usually) to cause any concern so I wouldn't worry too much.
I think we're all a little overly paranoid while pregnant these days. I look at the stuff my mother did while pregnant with all 3 of us and it's a wonder any of us are alive.
*GASP* I ate a COLD roast beef sandwich for lunch today.
I'll put a little wine in a sauce or risotto or something that is going to simmer for a while but wouldnt eat say a Bailey's Irish Cream frosting or something like that. The alcohol takes longer than you think to cook out - after about 30 minutes of simmering, 90% of the alcohol is gone from what I've read.
