fiber ?

Hey ladies... I'm definitely experiencing some issues with fiber intake, mostly because it's so hard for me to eat anything at this point still.  It's getting better slooooowwwly, but I had some trouble "getting things moving" if you will, the last 3 days.

Have any of you taken Benefiber while pregnant?  I asked the pharmacist today and he didn't see a problem with taking it.  I go to the doctor tomorrow for my progesterone shots, so I'll definitely ask her then, but I was just curious.  I've had awful stomach pains from not being able to "go."  It's the most awful feeling!  I'm hoping that since I can mix it in my water or OJ in the morning, It will help me get some of the fiber I need to keep things moving.

Thanks girls, and sorry about the TMI.  Embarrassed

Re: fiber ?

  • I took Metamucil capsules daily - they're just basic psyllium fiber capsules.  Target, WalMart, CVS, etc. all make their own store brand of these.  It definitely helped me.  It's also really important to keep up your water intake for a variety of reasons, but it'll help to keep things moving for you - I drank at least 80 oz per day.  Also, try to look for foods that have high fiber - bread, etc.  GL!

  • i had issues with that too.  I took Colace. Good luck- that isn't any fun.

  • I have issues when I'm not pregnant...so add pregnancy and prenatal vitamins in and it's not fun!

I eat SO much fiber - fruits and veggies, plus Fiber One cereal, double fiber whole grain bread - and I take a Colace every day, which is totally fine by my midwife. She said I could actually take more than one a day if I want.

I've also found eating yogurt as often as possible to be helpful. I don't love yogurt, but it's worth it! GL!

  • It may be the extra calcium you are having that is slowing things down. I took benefiber and had no problems.
  • I take the chewables. I forget what brand they are but they're actually yummy.

This is what my husband takes and I've taken on occasion a well.

They kind of remind me of a chewy sweet tart. Also remember all that fiber won't help if it doesn't have the fluids/water to help push it through as well.

  • Thanks, ladies!  My doctor said the Benefiber was okay to take so it's made things a lot easier!  I'm definitely drinking the fluids, but eating is still a touch-and-go subject for me.  Some days I feel great and could eat a horse and try and eat as much fiber-rich foods as I can, and then others I can hardly eat a saltine cracker.

But, I started trimester 2 today, so I'm a happy camper and will hopefully start feeling better soon... :-/
