Struggling

Well, we just started trying to PT this afternoon.  After I told him the drill, he repeated to me, Pee Pee in the Potty.  Well, it seems like he wants to go potty and I sit him on it and then he wants to get down shortly thereafter.  As soon as we put on the underwear, he goes pee.  Do I make him sit until he goes?  I was thinking that this was the wrong approach to sit him on the potty until he goes.  I'm frustrated and have only been doing this for 3 hours!!!

    I have been sitting DS on the toilet on and off for the last couple months. He has done the same thing you described. I think that sometimes it is hard for them to connect letting themselves go/ making themselves go and being at the right place. He was so close! My suggestion would be that if he does the same thing again, put him back in the toilet immediately to try and connect the feeling of going with sitting on the toilet. I usually have DS sit for a few minutes. If he says he's done and hasn't gone, I  ask him to sit for a few minutes longer. Good Luck!

    DD wouldn't go on the potty on day 1 either.  By the afternoon of day 2, she was going on the toilet.  It was discouraging having zero success on day 1, but in the end it was worth it.  Good luck, and don't give up.
