curious? Ive been lurking on this site and you all seem so knowledgable so just though i might ask. I haven' been able to find this in all the reading i have done. I am starting clomid this cycle on CD5-9 and was just wondering, thanks so much.
I am guessing... I start on 3, and the OB (who I was seeing before the RE) told me it was to help shorten my 33ish day cycles to closer to 28ish. Don't know if that is the actual answer or not, but that's what the OB told me.
ETA: FWIW it didn't really shorten them consistently. It made them all over the place at first. I didn't stay on it long though, so maybe it would have worked had I done more than 2 months. I moved on to Femera after that.

I know I will be corrected if I am wrong, but I believe the theory is that one of the start dates is susposed to produce more eggs of decent quality and the other start date is susposed to produce fewer eggs at a better quality.
To be honest, I don't think it matters too much but then again I am not a doctor. Good luck with your cycle!
It was my understanding that starting on CD3 would produce more eggs. I'm high risk for PTL, so my OB didn't want me to produce too many eggs and increase my chance of conceving multiples so he started me on CD5. It was still very effective (worked for me the first round).
I started Clomid on CD5 and I asked my RE why then and not earlier based on what I had heard from other people and he said that it just depends on the situation and he wanted me to have good quality eggs instead of a lot of eggs that don't have as good of quality.
This makes sense. I assume the same theory rings true for femara? I started at CD 5 this time and will have injects ready just in case I don't get a good enough response. Hopefully I will get those good quality egg yall talk about!!
I asked this same question. I started on CD5 and was told it was to help lengthen my cycle and hopefully regulate my ovulation to around day 14 instead of 9-12.
Me: 35, elevated FSH 10.9, DH: 32, low morph & motility
After 2 years and 29 cycles, success au natural!
