washing DC's clothes ?

Do you wash your DC's clothes separately from your own?

If you wash them separate, what do you do with soiled clothes if there's not enough for another load?

I just finished washing DS's laundry when of course he has a blowout and dirties what he's wearing.  I rinsed most of the stuff off, but I can't let it sit there soaking until the next load of laundry...WWYD?

Also, I use the same laundry detergent for all our clothes (Tide Free or 7th Generation).

I may be overthinking this, but thanks for the feedback!

Re: washing DC's clothes ?

  • I have been gradually switching him over to our detergent/fabric softner. They say to try one item of clothing with your soaps and if DC has not skin reaction then you can switch them. He's been great so now I wash his clothes with ours. So much easier.

  • Everyone's clothes get washed together in whatever laundry detergent is on sale.  I have never pre-washed an item of clothing.  She has never had a rash or reaction, either.

I deal with stains individually.  I spot clean the stain and buy some additional stain resistant insurance by spraying on some laundry stain remover spray and leaving it on the spot.

Once treated, I put in the regular laundry pile to wait for the next load.

  • I've been washing DS's clothes separately with Dreft/Target baby laundry detergent. When there are blowouts or spitups in between washing days, I pre-spot these with Shout, rinse with water and then another quick shot of Shout and leave them out until I do all of the laundry. This seems to take out most of the stains. We use Tide free or something comparable for our clothes and I'll probably switch eventually but for now I'm sticking with Dreft.
  • I wash DS's clothes with mine using Ultra Cheer Free and Gentle detergent.  DH's clothes are too dirty to wash anything with them except each other.

DS has never had a reaction to MIL's regular detergent, but the Cheer Free and Gentle is so dang cheap that I'm sticking with it not because of reactions but because of the money.

Also, I'm lazy and have never treated stains and they always come out just by washing.

  • I use Kirland (Costco) free and clear for all of our clothes (I'm the one w/ sensitive skin).  I'd just hang it to dry and throw it in with the next load.  The only time I treated DS's clothes for stains was right after the hospital when we were supplimenting.  BM doesn't stain, and in my experience neither does the poo.  Maybe I've just been lucky.
