TTC after 35

Now I'm really confused...

This may be a silly question, but what do you count as the first day of your cycle (CD1) - the first day of your period, or the day after your period starts?

I ask because I went in for my progesterone blood draw this morning, which I'm supposed to do on CD 21, 22 or 23. According to *my* schedule (everything I find says it's the first day of your period -- not just spotting, but truly flowing) today is CD 21 as my last period started June 22. I'm traveling for work starting tomorrow, so thought there would be no problems going in today.

Well...I got there and the NP said it's only CD20 because CD1 starts the day after your first day on your period. WTH???? She took my blood draw anyway since I'm traveling this week, but said the reading might be off because it's too early in my cycle.

Am I living in an alternate universe or something?

I believe it's the day you start, even if it's just spotting.

My Dr counts CD1 as the first day of full flow.

  • First day of flow, not spotting, even if it's light (which is more than spotting).
  • I've always heard that CD1 starts the first day of red bleeding (brown spotting doesn't count).  Why would a new cycle start the day after AF, that makes no sense!

  • My RE said to count CD1 as the day full red flow starts unless it starts, say, in the late afternoon or evening.......then, CD1 is the next morning.  For some reason, my RE seems to think most women's AF starts in the morning, and sometimes mine does, but not every month!  Does this help or confuse?  I would just say the first day of full red flow, not spotting.

I've heard this before and it doesn't make sense to me.  Though ultimately one day isn't going to be a huge deal, I still don't get this.

This isn't directed at you, pnity!  Smile

  • Well, glad to know that I wasn't totally crazy (but I agree, think the NP had something funny in her morning coffee or something).I can't imagine 24 hours would make a huge difference either way. So, here's hoping for postive test results!

  • My doc said first day of flow if before 4:00 pm. After 4:00 pm, the following day is CD1. Why this makes a difference, I have no idea, but thankfully I am a morning person so it will be less confusing.
