Tummy time

So, my DS is STILL hating tummy time.  We do it multiple times a day on a boppy, off a boppy, any way that he will tolerate it.  Today he was moving a bit..He doesn't push up, but he has been putting he bottom in the air and pushing up with his feet.  It almost looked like he was going to turn over, but he didn't make it.  He did this for awhile and then just laid there on his tummy for awhile just resting.  I couldn't get him to even attempt to push up or stay on arms.  Any suggestions?

Re: Tummy time

  • I can't wait to hear some suggestions.  My LO won't stay on her tummy now that she can roll.  I put her on her tummy and she immediately rolls to her back.

  • DS hates tummy time too.  He does the same thing you're describing - with his tush in the air like he's going to flip.  He did roll onto his back twice over a month ago but never again.  He hates being on his tummy!  But he rolls back to belly all.the.time!  Then lays there crying :(

  • Ugh.  DS breaks my heart during tummy time. He cries, whimpers, drools and spits up. I can't take it - I cry, too. Then he's inconsolable for at least 10 minutes afterwards.  We bought the Bumbo and he's not too great at holding up his head (probably bc I've been slacking on TT). I figured it would work his neck and abs and he's just going to have to have wimpy arms. I'll keep trying TT, but I'm not leaving my boy there to scream just to get in the 5 minutes. If he screams after 30 seconds, I pick him up. I know...flame away.

  • I used to rattle a toy or something just infront of her just above her head so she'd look up.  Now she loves it and as soon as I put her on her back rolls over onto her tummy

  • My DS is not a fan either.  2 weeks ago he rolled tummy to back twice in one day and then 4 times the next day, and since then... NOTHING.  It's like he forgot how.  So now he does the cry and whimper thing.  He will usually tolerate it for about 3-5 minutes then forget it!  I've taken to several short bits instead of long times... not sure if it'll make a difference, but that's our new strategy!

  • DS is just starting to like Tummy Time.   We actually started laying him on his tummy on top of my DH's tummy and he liked that better.  Now he lasts for about 15 minutes on his tummy on the Boppy or on the floor.  He rolled over for the first time this weekend.  I hate to say but if the tv is on he seems to like it better.  I think he "forget" he's on his tummy since he's mesmerized by the moving pictures.  I have a funny picture of him laying on his Boppy on the floor staring up at the tv.  Good neck workout!  We also use a stuffed animal that lights up and sings in front of him as well.  I think it's trial and error until you figure out what works!

  • Ugh.  My DS is the exact same way and we haven't found anything that will get him to like tummy time.  He has only pushed his head up a handful of times.  He spends most of tummy time actively trying to get off his tummy but he hasn't gotten the hang of rolling yet (he's super close) so he just gets frustrated and upset.
