Has anyone's LO done this?

When he was first born, there were time that DS would scream and scream that he is hungry, even if the bottle is in his mouth. It would take him a while to realize to start sucking and we would have to calm him down enough to realize it. The past couple of day, he started this again. My grandmother just called me asking me what to do and i told her. It is like he is soooo hungry, and he ate 3 1/2 hours ago, 5 1/2 ounces. Also, the past 2 days he hasn't even been lasting 3 1/2-4 hours like he usually does. He would last 2 1/2-3. Can this be a growth spurt or because it is so hot?

Re: Has anyone's LO done this?

  • Do you squeeze a little milk into his mouth to make him realize it's there? And, yes, I think the heat and a growth spurt both make sense.  BM/Formula is also their drink so you're doing the right thing by feeding him on demand!

  • It definitely could be a growth spurt.

DD has had a few times where she got upset over something and she got so worked up it took a while to calm her down.

Maybe just adjust his feeding schedule to try and stay ahead of the hunger for a few days?

  • Totally sounds like a growth spurt. He will even out in a few days. No worries. :)
  • I would wait and see if it gets back to normal in the next few days.  If it does, then it is probably a growth spurt or needing a little extra liquid if he is out in the heat a lot.

If it isn't back to normal in a few days, it might be acid reflux.  My LO always wanted to eat.  She screamed after a few sucks and seemed to have trouble calming down to eat at the beginning of the feeding.  She also wanted to eat more often.  I thought that she was starving, so I took her to the pediatrician.  She was actually over eating and gaing weight too fast, because drinking made the acid reflux temporarily feel better.  The milk on her throat felt good and while milk was going down, nothing could come up.  However, eating more actually made the problem worse.  We started giving her 1 mL maalox before each feeding, and that helped so she was put on a prescription and her eating (and mood) got back to normal.

  • I tried squeezing the milk into his mouth. That is what i have done in the past when he used to do this twice a day. The extra feedings don't really concern me. If he is hungry sooner, he is hungry. It is the crying with the bottle in the mouth that concerns me. He will SCREAM bloody murder. It is very strange. Just spoke to my grandmother and he is eating like a champ, which is good. I just don't know why he does it. Thanks everyone for your help.
