Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I need a carrier

Will you recommend yours? DS is around 15 lbs now so I'm not sure if the sling would be best. He likes to look out so I was thinking a baby bjorn might be good. What do you have that you like? Thanks!

  • I use the Moby wrap and I love it! The weight limit is 35 lbs so you can get some good use out of it. DS loves it.

  • I love my lillebaby carrier. It is like the Ergo but you have the option of facing baby out. Sometimes they sell in on mamabargains for 50% off.
  • I have this sling and LO weighs about that.   The sling can be used with LO laying down or sitting up.  So LO can nap/rest in it laying down or be sitting up and looking around.  I love it!  It is easy to use.  I use it around the house and when we are out and I don't want to carry the carrier around.
  • Ergo.  It has pockets so I can just bring 1 dipe, some wipes and my wallet. Love it!!

  • Right now the Moby. She's almost ready for the Ergo. We also got a Baby K'Tan for DH to use, but he hasn't put her in it yet
  • I would not get a bjorn at this stage because it doesn't have enough support as LO is heavier.

The Pikkolo allows forward facing (Ergo and Beco do not)

I LOVE my Moby and just used it as a pattern to make it out of gauze so it's lightweight for summer (several individuals do this, check Esty).  We'll be working on a high back carry next so he can still look out but he's on my back (better weight distribution for me and when he gets tired, he can put his head on my shoulder and go to sleep)

  • I love the Ergo.

I would say about 90% of the baby's weight is put on your hips and not your back or shoulders.  I can go on a walk and get home and not be sore.  I had the Moby and I could never get the thing just right.  I got tired of her slouching in it and my back would kill me after carrying her around for a short walk.  I would at least try the Ergo on and you'll see such a difference compared to other carriers like the Bjorn and the Moby.

  • I just got my mei tai (from Mei Tai Baby).  I LOVE it!  I wasn't sure if she was going to like it or not, since she is one that likes to look around as well, but even with her facing in, she can turn to the side and look around.  I had her out for a longer walk in it the other day and she fell asleep half way home.  I used to use a wrap, but this is way easier.  It also goes to 35lbs.

  • Gonna get up on my soapbox for a minute.  Sorry!

Bjorns are not good for your back or for baby's hips.  Also, while LO might like to look out, with a front-facing carrier there is no option for them to look away when overstimulated- they're trapped.  I would seriously consider a Pikkolo or a Beco (they're coming out with a new one this summer that allows forward facing) so you have the option of having LO face in, too.  Another option to consider is doing a back carry in one of these- it's easier on your back as LO gets heavier and that way she can look over your shoulder to see but can snuggle against you when she gets overstimulated and needs a break.
