DS started Thursday with an intermittent cough, which continued Friday with a bit of a runny nose (just every few hours). He was running at about 99.4 temp (rectal). All of a sudden, he started crying and he was burning up and spiked a fever (102.7). He was lethargic until the Motrin kicked in and was back to normal. The rest of the weekend, he was still coughing, not constant with no fever and acting fine, although not sleeping great. I know his canines are all coming in right now and yesterday he was gumming at everything he could find and they seemed to be bugging him. Would teething cause a fever that high? Normally I would just watch him b/c we We have crappy high deductible insurance and pay a lot for an office visit and he seems great, but we are flying out of town Thurs and obv. if he has any kind of ear infection that can't happen.
Re: High Fever with Teething?
I'd take him in since you are going out of town.
BUT - Jack does get 102-103 fevers with teething. He also gets green runny nose and a bad cough. For MONTHS I thought he just got a nasty cold once a month and thought it was so sad that he always got a cold and a tooth at the same time. Then I finally figured out that the cold magically disappeared at the same moment that the tooth popped through.
i think it sounds like teething and a virus have hit your LO at the same time.
DS had the exact same symptoms last week. I took him to the Pedi and he had an ear infection. I would recommend taking him in.
