Mealtime question

Maggie is at the table in a booster, at her own insistence. She still makes quite the mess and our dining table doesn't have the kind of finish that likes getting wiped off with a wet cloth a lot. She uses a placemat but of course it doesn't stay put. I'm kind of afraid to go with a tablecloth in case either she or the dogs take to yanking it. Any ideas on how to make our table more kid mess friendly?

Re: Mealtime question

  • Have you tried something like this? It has suctions on the bottom that stick to the table, and it rolls up inside itself, so it's easy to store. I know pinklu used it with Adah, and it always seemed to contain the mess pretty well. I bought one for Jonah to use when he's old enough to sit in a high chair. Hope this helps!

  • If all else fails you could just eat outside, so you can hose it off... lol.  I don't have much in the way of suggestions... even at 3 years and a place mat that stays in place we still get mess all over the place, because he drops it on himself by pulling back from the table.  Self feeding is fun isn't it?

The other thing that helps us is an old towel underneath the booster seat.  I wash it with my towels each week...  and "dust" it off when needed.
  • Ugh. Mealtime is my least favorite part(s) of the day! Both of my kids are extremely messy and it drives me crazy! I feel like I can't keep up with the mess. Okay, sorry for my vent.

I like the pp's suggestion of that table mat, I may look into that.

I know my DD would pull on a tablecloth for sure, but I know Maggie is a little older than mine. It seems like a tablecloth would be a good solution, but only if she doesn't pull on it. I just saw the comment about the dogs yanking on it, so nevermindStick out tongue

Sorry, I'm not much help. Our table is super cheap and I don't really care what happens to it....I'm counting down the days until I can get a new, nice table!
