first time BFP... now cramping?

So I can't find this in any of the books... I feel short but strong pains to the left side of my lower abdomen. They last about 15 to 20 seconds. I've felt them just a few times. Yesterday especially. I also have felt dull cramping as if my period is about to start. Is this something to worry about or is it normal? It's not happening all day every day, but it's happened enough to notice and post this message.

Some calming thoughts (if this is nothing to worry about) would be appreciated. By the way... I'm seeing the doctor this friday for my first visit. I had the first BFP last week, and I could be as far along as 4 weeks.

Thanks!

Re: first time BFP... now cramping?

  • Here's what I'll say.  My ENTIRE pregnancy I had cramps.  Here I thought, wow I'm going to have 9 months cramp free, and really I cramped more than I usually do! I worried all the time at first that it meant I was about to lose the baby, but I didn't.  GL

  • This was one thing that made me test b/c I had the same thing (but on my right side) when I was pregnant with DS.  Hope that helps a little!

  • Cramping can be normal, but it can be not normal, too.  I'd call the OB tomorrow morning and let them know.  They may want to see you sooner.  In the mean time, take it easy and drink lots of water.

  • I wondered the same thing when I had cramping (it really worried me) but I found out this is a sign your muscles are stretching and your body is making room for your baby.  In fact, I asked the same thing on the boards - many of us have the same concerns.  Good thing is - it's quite common.

     Above all, congratulations!

  • Cramping is normal.  Its also sticks around for awhile.  Sometimes just drinking more water and relaxing helps.

  • I have had cramping since before I got my BFP! It can be completely normal to have dull achy cramps during your pregnancy. Hope that helps coming from a 2nd time Mommy.
  • I am having the same thing and my doctor said it was all normal. But i would definitely mention it to your doctor on friday.
