DH and I just found out we're moving to the Detroit area in mid-August or early September. I'm currently about 7.5 weeks pregnant and we know almost nothing about Detroit!
We're not sure if we'll rent or buy but what are some good areas to live in or avoid? What are some good labor and delivery hospitals? OBGYN recs?
Thanks in advance!!
Re: Going to be new to area
Congrats and welcome!
It's hard to give suggestions without knowing in which general area you are moving to, but there are a lot of great cities (and hospitals) in Oakland County.
I would recommend looking at Oakland or Macomb counties.
DH and I live in Utica now, and we both previously lived in Clinton Township (both Macomb County). DH grew up in Mt Clemens (but I wouldn't recommend it for living - though the nightlife there is decent). I grew up in Fraser, and love that it still has a small town feel. If you're interested in Fraser at all, PM me (my parents have a house for sale there - the house I grew up in! - they are asking about $135k, I think, and it was worth $250k just a few years ago).

Hi there ...
I saw your post on the Nest too and you said your DH is in sales. Is he expecting to travel the whole state? That might help your decision on where to move. If he has to go to the west side of the state a lot, living in the western suburbs of southeast Michigan might be better. My DH travels a lot (50,000-plus miles some years), and it's been much easier living in a western suburb. It's closer to Lansing, Grand Rapids, etc., but you still have access to Metro Detroit.
